First Trip in 09

Well after my morning coffee Im headed out to de-winterize the TT and get ready to head out tomorrow. Weather is look great for the rest of the week and the kids are on break so we are headed down to Fish Creek for a few days. Still gonna be cool at night but days are suppose to be in the 50s and no rain. I have everything ready to go but the water system and finish hooking up my second battery. Decided to add second batt this year as we are doing all dry camping this year. We are all excited as we have never camped this early in the year. This will be our third season with our Sunny.

Hope everyone had a nice Easter

We were going to wait until May, after I have surgery to have the pin removed from my collarbone. Now they aren't going to do it for 2 more weeks. Since I already have the coach ready to go, so I wouldn't have to do it right after surgery, and the weather is going to be nice this weekend, I think we'll have to hook her up and head out. We had already made reservations for the second weekend of May, thinking I would be healed up, but now I'll still have the stitches in. Oh well, can't let a few stitches stop me. I guess a bad day at the campground is better than a good day sitting at home.

Frank, now you sound like my wife. She yells at me all the time. I've been doing some yard work. I look at it as physical therapy. When I start to get sore then I stop for the day.

Boy, everyone is getting out this week-end I’m jealous.
I’ll be sanitizing the water system this week-end, temps finally look like they'll be staying above freezing at night.
Our first trip out is planned for next week-end.

Hey Mike, I agree with Pam, let Roz do all the work (boy will I hear about saying that next time I see Roz )

Pam, I thought you said you were going to Locust Lake before, but then I saw you said you were going to Codorus this weekend, and thought maybe I read it wrong. This was last minute planning, actually Roz doesn't know it yet. Looks like I'm going to get yelled at again. I think she knows something is up, because she saw me getting some things together.

Tom, it's a no win situation. If I let her do all the work, I won't hear the end of it. But if I try and do to much, I won't hear the end of it. But either way it will be worth it.

We are headed out for the 1st trip this weekend too...

"Camp Nana/ Maxine's Marathon Madness" at Kelly's Grandmother's house in Hopkinton, MA- she lives less than a mile from the start line of the Boston Marathon, so we all grab our coaches (of various makes) and head up there for a weekend of fun, frivolity, and frosty cold ones....

If anyone from MA is going to the marathon, PM me if you want (by Friday 8 am)....maybe we can meet up. There's always room to stop in there any time (as long as you don't bring your camper! Her yard will be full up!)

Hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend (and take care of that arm Mike)!

We are also taking the big girl out for the first trip of the season this WE. Supposed to be very nice, sunny with temps in the high 60's. We did want to start a little sooner but Amanda had a fairly major operation at the beginning of March that still has her at half ability. She is doing really well, impressed me and even the doctors. We are now looking forward to getting back to some form of normality. If there is such a thing.

You're right Mike, we originally were going to Locust Lake, but we thought better of heading north to camp on a lake in the trees and decided to head south and camp out in the sunshine at Codorus. We'll be on site 132 if anyone from the club is planning to come there for the weekend. I know a couple members don't live to far away. Steve is taking half a day tomorrow!!! Where are you guys going?

We're heading out Saturday for our second trip of 2009. We will be boon docking at a dog show in Salisbury, MD, with limited electric, water and a honey wagon for sewage for a WEEK. Taking the generator and hoping to survive a week without full hookups.

We return home on April 25 and then leave May 1 for Virginia Beach for another dog show!! This show is at the Holiday Travel Park and we have reserved a site with full hookups.

We're also heading out TODAY for our 2nd trip of the year.

Torreya State Park is a small, quiet out-of-the-way place with an older campground/bath house. It's got some GREAT hiking trails.

We hope everyone enjoys their weekend! Travel Safe!

As a kid, (many, many years ago), I camped at a campground called Fish Creek Pond in upstate NY. I wonder if it is the same place. Enjoy your season. I know we will.

Well we are back from a great 4 days camping; we left for home Sat Am just in time as we hit the rain on the way back. It was still a little cool at night with some nights getting down in the 20s. Daytime temps were 50 to 60 with a breeze off the Pond that made it chilly. I found out we can go 3 ½ nights on a full tank of propane. Had to get up at 4:00am and turn on my other tank on the last night. I usually run one tank on at a time but have never run the furnace that much. Next time I will know better. Fish Creek had sites 35-50 open when we arrived on Tue and there were 5 other sites occupied when we arrived. On Fri they open up more sites and another bathroom as there were quite a few campers coming in. I would guess there had to be close to 20 campsites occupied when we left today. The Sunny worked great on its first trip of the year. The second battery made a big difference. I only had to run my generator in the evening to top off my batteries for the night. If we weren’t using the furnace I probably wouldn’t have had to even run the genny. The DEC did have to educate one camper about generator hours, this guy thought you could run it from 9:00Am to 11:00Pm. We spent the days exploring and checking out the campsites. This was only our second time at Fish Creek so we made a list of sites for future camping. Hope everyone else’s trips went well.

This coming Friday we're taking our maiden flight with the little SunLine. Everything is ready to go. We're heading for a campground about 100 miles south of here. Since the nights are still cold (40s and 50s) we're bringing heavy comforters and a small electric heater. Does anyone use electric heaters rather than their RV's furnace? We're paying for the electricity at the CG so may as well use it.

Electric Heaters

We only use our gas heater when we're dry camping. We usually don't run our electric heater when sleeping, if we do it's set to a low temperature typically in the 40's or so.

We do use an electric blanket, we use a twin size in our little Sunline and it does the job easily down to the 20's. First one up turns the heat on.

If you instantly want to take the chill off in the morning turn on your stove's burners. It will take the chill off in a couple of minutes.

Have a great trip.

Norm
