First camping trip with our T-1550

Gail, Buckley (our puppy) and I took off Friday morning for Letchworth Sate Park with our new-to-us 1983 T-1550. We met our son Max, his wife Kimmy and our grandson Mason at the campground and spent some time with them, then hit Lorraine's Diner in Castile for a great meal. Friday night and into Saturday early morning we got hit with a major deluge, lots of rain.

Saturday morning 1st thing I tried another idea (thanks mainah!) to get my power working. It did the trick, and we had full power. This is our first trailer with benefits, i.e. water system, toilet, stove, etc. We took off Saturday morning for an antique outboard motor (AOMCI) meet at the boat launch on the SW end of Silver Lake, just west of Letchworth. It was a crummy morning, cold, blustery, rain off and on, but saw some old friends and got a boat ride out of the deal. We left about 1 to meet another son (Billy) who lives out that way and his girlfriend Ashley. We had lunch at the Charcoal Corral in Perry. It was okay. After lunch we went back to the campground, showed off the trailer, spent some time, then they took off. We went into Castile and hit the little supermarket there, got some burgers and beer and headed back for our first meal cooked on the T-1550's stove. All three burners work great.

After a good nights sleep, we got ready to go early, then went out and saw some of the sights that make Letchworth the so-called Grand Canyon of NYS. The weather was crummy, so we didn't spend long doing that, and no pics. After getting gas, we went back to the camp site, hooked up and headed for the dump station. Yet another new experience that worked out just fine.

We were fortunate that we did not hit too much rain on the way home. On the positive side, we did not detect any leaks in the T-1550, which for a trailer this old is a real good thing.

Gotta get to work, but figured I'd post this report on the weekend. I put a few pics in my album if you want to see...

Thanks! Next stop, someplace for a night June 29 of the way out to Fredonia, then Keuka Lake State Campground, the 19th through the 27th of July. We'll have more "stuff" with us for that trip (like our classic boat).

Frank,

Not sure if it would work for your June trip, but we are staying at Clute in Watkins Glen. Town run park at the end of Seneca Lake, full hookups but less $$ than the bigger KOA campground. This for one night on way to Buttonwood in PA. A fairly simple place, but it has good reviews and will hopefully be fine for us for one night. Then at Hartwick Highlands in Cooperstown on the way back. I can report back on each of these for you. Since we travel to the Finger Lakes a lot, I'd love to compare notes with you on campgrounds we stay at !

We're hoping to get a one night reservation at Fair Haven on Lake Ontario that night, but I'll certainly keep the Clute in mind.

We've stayed at both Letchworth and Keuka in the Finger Lakes. We're at Keuka every 3 weekend in July for the Antique & Classic Boat Society's meet there at Hammondsport (we're members of the local chapter, Wine Country Classic Boats). Then we generally come early and stay late. We love that campground, it's one of the nicest around, especially if you have kids. It has an awesome playground and a nice beach, as well as a great boat launch.

Letchworth isn't quite as nice as a campground, but that's okay; it's the natural features of the park that attract us there. Commonly called the Grand Canyon of NYS, it is absolutely awesome and a great place to stay if you like hiking in canyon country. Also, they have an old inn maned the Glen Iris that is worth a visit for the scenic overlook and the great food.

We love the Finger Lakes too. One day we may live there!

No problem. It was a great weekend, in part getting to see our two youngest boys, our daughter-in-law, grandson, and our youngest boy's girlfriend. We love camping.

Our grandson, Mason, will be 1 year old July 3, but the party is Saturday June 30. That is probably the next trip with the T-1550. It is such a cool little camper!
