Duo Therm Thermostat

Hello Fellow Campers, Our 2004 2499 has decided it does not like it's original thermostat. Has anyone changed out for a standard Honeywell or other RV digital Thermostat. Is it very difficult?

In the files area there is a file On converting a duotherm to a digital thermostat. If you look back a couple of years there's an extensive thread on this exact conversion. The thermostat that I used is readily available at Walmart and should only cost about 25 bucks.

Since I posted in the thermostat thread http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f6...er-8512-2.html, it was easy to find.

Read all of it from p. 2 and do not waste your time or money if you have a CSA trailer, as you should if you bought it new in Canada. The CSA wiring is somehow inconspicuously different and much sharper electrical minds than mine were not able to solve it.

This is an intriguing problem that may have been unique to Sunline/Dometic as I had zero problems switching the Coleman analog of our current also CSA Arctic Fox for the equivalent Coleman digital. The digital is indeed far easier to adjust and holds its set point instead of wandering up and down over about 5°.

The Dometic/Duotherm is available at Amazon.com, but I couldn't find it on amazon.ca. Check the shipping because you can likely get a better deal at a local RV dealer. Several items I've bought over the years at my local Rockwood dealer, I've been surprised at how competitive their prices are and usually with no shipping.

Henry

Thanks Steve and Henry, Our 04 2499 was bought in Michigan at General RV. We really enjoy it and even use it in our back yard. I read the posts over does not look too hard. The RV dealer wanted 139.00 for the Stat and 100 to install. Having watched a video on YouTube about using a Honeywell we bought one at CTC and will give it a go. Thanks again for the help.

One of the docs in the files area illustrates the use of a Hunter brand thermostat. These can be purchased at Walmart for about 25 bucks. That's what I put in my Sunline and that's what I have in my Cougar now. I'm very happy with them in both trailers.

However the Honeywell thermostat should perform equally well. The wiring is identical.

I use a standard computer type one in mine with timers and set temps. Any low voltage one will work.

I want to thank John, Steve, Henryj, and Trailblazer for your help I did the change over of the thermostat to a Honeywell. We added a toggle switch from info we found on YouTube and it all works great. We will be headed to Florida soon and did not want to go without AC. So thanks again and happy, safe camping to everyone.
