Drop the point 9 already...........
Drop the Point 9
Back when I was in high school and gas was 29.9 cents per gallon it fooled me into thinking that it was less than 30 cents. Today at 370.9 it’s 371! It doesn’t fool me anymore. I’ve spent that point 9 in Euros, Nuevo Soles, Turkish Lira, Pounds and Reais. At point 9 centavos or point 9 cents it doesn’t fool me. When I fill up the 36 gallon tank on my F150 the difference is 3.6 cents. You can keep the 3.6 cents oil companies. However, I think the industry will save money by not having to buy signage that accommodates the point 9.
And Another Thing
The next time you need to raise the price of gas 20 cents a gallon because some refinery in Louisiana is slowing production due to the threat of a hurricane in the Gulf, tell the truth. There’s a holiday weekend coming up and you have the opportunity to make a few Billion extra for the coffers and a little something to fund the bonuses coming up for the executives.
One final thought
It’s illegal to fill up your diesel vehicle with home heating oil avoiding road use taxes. Today it’s cheaper to buy heating oil at the pump and pay the taxes. They take extra care in refining and filtering home heating fuel plus they have to compensate for onsite storage and home delivery. Okay, I get it. Fill up the tank, sit down, shut up and sign the check. But you’re not fooling me.

I go thro this with my wife all the time. I look at a gas sign, 3.99 9/10, I see 4.00, she sees 3.99. She rounds everything else up, but gas.

I never understood why diesel is more expensive than gasoline when it requires less refinement process and is cheaper to make.
Sorry, I just added more fuel to your fire.

Is there a real value of something costing $2.99? Why not make it $3.00 or $2.90? How will prices be figured when the penny is dropped?
Ever look at how much you are paying per kWh for electricity? Bet it carried it to more than a tenth of a cent. Our electric is priced at 7.047 cents per kWh, a thousandth of a penny. Beats a tenth of a penny all to heck.

I don't want the penny to disappear though....seems like prices would go from $2.99 to $3.00 and I would lose a penny! Pennies add up. lol

Such is the intent of the .9 - a mind game, to make us think it's cheaper than it is.
Same goes for vehicle prices. "...only $24,999.99!" Hey, it's "under $25,000".

That is exactly why!
When I see $8.99 I see $9.00- Leo on the other hand sees $8.00

When the price of gas was $.209 cents a gallon it paid to turn around for the 10% savings to buy gas at $.189. Find gas at $.159 and save 25% was a real treat. I think I would turn around if I could find gas for $2.929 instead of the $3.259 I pay today, still ten percent. Can't you see how long the line would be at a station selling gas for $2.459, a twenty five percent savings?
Today I use anything but the price of the gas when deciding where to buy. My local service station (term used loosely) will turn pumps on for anyone, whether they use credit card or come inside to pay with cash. It beats the Heck out of having to go inside, be insulted by some barely understandable accent and treated like a criminal by having to pay first, leave a deposit or use credit card. I couldn't even leave my Wifey standing by the register while I pumped. Maybe we both look like a Charles Manson or something. I will pay for better service be it for gas or anything else.
I get more upset over paying with cash and paying like a used a credit card. Remember getting a cash discount?

I won't buy gas where they charge for credit. There are plenty of places that don't charge as much as a nickel a gallon!
In answer to "remember when diesel was cheaper than gas". It was cheaper when only truck drivers wanted it.
It's the law of supply and demand. We demand and they raise the price of supply.
