dometic refrigerator

Has anyone had any experience "rebuilding" a dometic refrigerator or is it wise to just replace it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It's not a real had job but it does have to come out. There are several co. that sell rebuilt cooling units. It's a lot cheaper than a new unit.

I have a friend who replaced the cooling unit in his Dometic fridge a couple years ago and I talked with him about it shortly after he finished. He said the hardest parts were physically getting the fridge out of the camper to work on it (it's very bulky and he didn't have a slideout) and carefully separating the old cooling unit from the fridge (it's bonded together).

I rebuilt my refrigerator's cooling unit. Like what was in previous posts there are many companies that rebuild cooling units. When I rebuilt mine, I took out the dinette table and put a portable work bench in that space and worked on it inside the trailer. The hardest part I found was cutting the old cooling pipes out from the sprayed in foam. It took me about 9 hours to rebuild. The cooling unit lasted for about two years. The company I bought my cooling unit from is now out of business. So, this spring I bit the bullet and bought a new refrigerator. To get the old refrigerator out of my trailer and get the new one in I had to remove one of the windows and pass it through. It took several people but wasn't too bad.So far I am very pleased with the upgrades the new refrigerator has and it is working great.

We live just east of Rochester. We are heading down to NYC next week for a few days. We will be staying in a state park in NJ.
