carpet

We have a T2363 with half rug in the galley, would anyone know if there is tile under the carpeting.

We got some ugly spots on this carpet and if we can't remove them, we are thinking of taking carpeting out all together, it would be much easier to keep clean.

Or plan 'B' would be to have a darker color carpet installed.

Ed, I looked in the outside storage compartments of my 2363 and they have the same tile as is inside. Many times it is easier to cover the entire floor, even several times, than to use labor for the trim work that would otherwise be needed. Also, the tile is a good vapor barrier.

Thank you for the reply. I looked in our outside compartments and they have rug in them like in kitchen. Can't see if there is tile underneath. We are in N Ft. Meyers right now will be heading back to Pa. end of month. Ed

We recently had some floor work done by a repairman who used to work at a large Sunline dealership and he said Sunline covered the entire bare floor with vinyl before any walls, cabinets, etc. were installed.

We ended up covering the vinyl with a pargo type flooring because the vinyl was stretched so tight that it shrunk approximately 1" - 1 1/2" when they cut it away from the walls and cabinets.

The need for floor work is another story, which I need to get some pictures of the finished product. Unfortunately, I didn't have a camera available to capture the repair in-progress. But, I'll try to get a post up soon. Let's just say that having the last known custom unit built has had it's issues.

Ed, We've been trying to get to Pine Island, Florida since before Christmas but life gets in the way. Hope PA is sitting high and dry by the time you get there.

Mack, Waiting for floor pictures. What size wood is in the floor? Might need to do something to mine before long.

Jim:

Assuming you are referring to the size of the installed flooring, it's about 1/8" - 3/16" thick and came in 1' x 3' pieces. It is a very similar pattern/color to the original vinyl, only 12" squares instead of 9" squares. We replaced everything from the carpet edge in front bedroom to and including the rear bathroom.

There is vinyl under the carpet in the front end of my 2453 where the dining area is. It extends wall to wall and all the way to the front bulkhead under the carpet.

However, there are holes where the carpet was tacked down. That may present a different challenge for you if you take up the carpet.

If it was my choice, I would have nothing but vinyl on the floor throughout the trailer and then place runners or small area rugs where needed. We camp quite a bit where the soil is very sandy, and it is much easier to take the rugs and runners out to shake them and then sweep and vacuum the vinyl floor. And vinyl is easy to repair or replace.

Most rental RV's have all vinyl floors now.

Ed,

I went through this myself.

There is vinyl under most (but not necessarily all) of the carpet. On my '02 2363 it stopped a few inches short of the couch, and in the rear it did not extend into the bedroom. The vinyl under the carpet is essentially unusable because of the staples used to secure the carpet and the padding.

Here's my thread from when I replaced mine: http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f6...ment-9046.html

I think you guys just talked me into replacing the carpet or I should say having it replaced with maybe a darker color, possibly a green. Thanks all. Ed

Yes, as Frank said, not all of the Sunlines has tile thru the entire unit. I know mine stops short in many places.

And where they transitioned from carpet to tile they folded the carpet upside down, went nuts with the air stapler and then folded it over on it self to not need an edging strip and I suppose to make a soft joint.

I must admit I do like "some" carpet in the camper. Not the heavy walk areas like in front of the galley or bath area but the bedroom, slide and rear area is nice. And the type of rug pile makes a difference too. I like the 2004 rug pile but really do not care for the 2005 tighter pile.

Good luck Ed.

John

I agree I like the carpet too. We will shampoo it when we get home if the spots don't come out I will have it replaced. Thanks John. Ed

Our carpet was faded and stained and the vinyl underneath had split from shrinkage and had many staple holes. What to do?
We wanted the ease of care a vinyl floor would provide, but also wanted the warmth (both visually and physically) that carpet provides.
As a compromise between these irreconcileable extremes, we chose commercial carpet. It sweeps clean as does vinyl and provides the looks of a carpet.(as seen below)

Here's a detail showing how we took the carpet to the edge of the sofa. That's a thick pile scatter rug on the right as an inside door mat.

Just sweep the sand off and out the door.

Best regards,
Teach

We have medium green carpeting in the 5'er. I really like the color, but worry about keeping it clean, especially with the pups running in & out. I have found that Oxi-Clean MAX is a very good spot remover. I also have 3 throw rugs(recycled from the 2499) that I try to keep on the carpet in the "heavy traffic" areas. If/when the carpet gets to a point of needing replacing my current thought is some good vinyl sheet goods that has a pattern looking like ceramic tile. Won't do laminate (even though I like i)t, and I'm not sold on the "Allure" flooring for RV use.

Guess I better just keep our green carpet clean. Maybe a good time to buy stock in Oxi-Clean MAX.

Kitty we might have to check out that Oxi-Clean MAX. I have a couple spots on our carpet that I can't seem to get clean. The tan carpet we have is pretty and all, but very hard to keep clean...not to mention with two little doxies!

Mary Ann,

The only place I have seen the Oxi-Clean Max is Bed, Bath & Beyond. It might be starting to show up in other places by now, but I haven't looked.

On another note, haven't booked Rocky Gap due to site size, might get a chance to ride up there tomorrow to "see" if it really is only big enough for a 25 footer.

I hope we can get into the campground this time of year.

Ok..thanks I will get some. I love BB&B! LOL

Did you see the reservation page for Rocky Gap? They have measurements and also pictures of each site listed. I wish more campgrounds would do this! When we booked there were plenty of sites left.. Now I see there is only one left in Ash. We have never been in that site. So I can't tell you if it is actually bigger than is listed. ( some are..some aren't).

Thanks MaryAnn,

I did go to the site map and it states that site # 38 has max length of 25', we are 32', so it depends on whether the site has "room to spare". We are planning to take a ride up there this afternoon. I will keep you posted as to our findings.
