Camping this summer
We have made some reservations made for this summer.
Labor day we're going to the KOA at Watkins Glen. We've gone there for the last 5 years for that weekend. It makes a nice shakedown run for the season. It's close enough to home that if there is a problem we can get back home, but far enough to get away.
Then June 6, 7 & 8 we're going to Hickory Hill in Bath NY. Close enough to get there after the kids get out of school.
The biggie is in July we're taking 2 weeks and going back to Bar Harbor Maine. We'll be staying at the KOA on Mt Desert Island in the woodland section. We took a week and a couple of extra days last summer and loved the place. The problem was there was so much to do we didn't get to everything.
We're also hoping to get up to Lake Placid and a try some new places.
Our kids are on the swim team here and the coach is talking about going to a meet near Binghamton. There is also talk if we do this meet the team well stay at a nearby campground. We would go to the meet during the day and hang out at the campground. The kids would have a ball

Here's what the Bobo's have planned so far.
May 9-12 at Sampson State Park near Romulus NY
May 23-26 atSkyline Resort, Darien, NY
July 3-6 atLei-ti in Batavia, NY
July 18-27 at Golden Hill SP in Barker, NY
August 29-September 1 back at Golden Hill
September 5&6 at Westcott Beach State Park near Watertown, NY
September 7-14 at Cedar Point State Park, Clayton, NY
Of course quick weekends at nearby campgrounds as the stress levels need be and the cheapest, good ole driveway camping complete with fire pit.
Now if the yard can just dry out enough so I don't bury the camper pulling it out.

We are trying to stay close by this year due to the gas issue. We have already stayed at 2 local campgrounds that we have never been before and had a good time. We have always bypassed these campgrounds before because they were too close. One of the local ones has a spring and fall special where you can leave your unplugged coach on site during the work week. That was great.
Besides the Mingling in Mexico event in June, (just imagine over 30 coaches in one campground!!) , we have two big trips planned. 1) July at Narragansett RI. Fisherman’s Memorial State Park. (I owe you guys a review of this campground, guess deep down I want to keep it a secret.) This is one of my favorite places I the world, great sea food, great beaches, Point Judith lobster docks, Newport and Block Island. 2) October we are at Bandits Roost COE, NC. We are meeting my family there. My sister and husband are coming from GA in their Outback. My clueless brother is renting a small class C and bringing my father up from Florida. And we are coming from PA for a family reunion of sorts. Should be interesting!
By the way “DF4.6”, my Dad’s family are all up from your neck of the woods, Penn Yan and Branchport. That is some beautiful country.

Ahhh, Memorial Day is upon us. Feel like a kid the week before X-mas. Let the camping season begin. We will be at RB Winter State Park for the big 3 holidays plus 3-4 other excursions there throughout the summer and fall. It's a great little state park on rt.192 between Lewisburg, PA and Centre Hall, PA. Only 60 sites, all wooded, nice beach, but water is cooold. My wife and I got married there last Aug. I've been going there since I was a kid. We love it, and if you get in the area check it out. We head out Thursday after school,(I'm a teacher), and I am pumped.
Oh, and we will be heading to Buttonwood this June to meet our new found friends from the Sunline club. Looking forward to that. I wish everybody a great camping season. Oh by the way I was at Watkins Glen SP once and thought the state park was great.

Irishcamper, RB Winter is indeed a beautiful park. It was one of the first campgrounds we visited when my parents started camping in 1963. Parks have changed a lot since then: A swim in that cold lake was the closest thing to a shower/bath you could find!
We already enjoyed one outting this season at Caledonia SP between Gettysburg and Chambersburg on Rte 30. The older of the two campgrounds is for campers with pets. It was completely full even though the camping season has barely begun.
Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day we have reservations at Pioneer Campground in Sullivan County, PA. This is close to Worlds End SP and Rickets Glen SP. Both parks have nice hiking trails.
Of course, we're looking forward to Buttonwood in June. It will be great to finally meet everyone.

We have already been out a few times. We went down to Topsail Hill for spring break - away from the kids! We visited Hard Labor Creek State Park recently. Nice park. I recommend visiting on a weekend when the Ga St. Univ observatory is operating. We just returned from Trackrock campgrounds in north Georgia. A nice, but hilly rv park in the mountains.
We will work a few in this summer as well, but we will be doing them on the fly. My son is joining the Navy and leaves for boot camp the Tuesday following Memorial Day. We are having a going away party, but no camping. We are planning on going to Illinois for boot camp graduation, so no camping until we know the date for sure.

partimcmpr,
I have relatives that live in GA. Up until recently in Douglasville, now outside of Savannah. My Oma currently resides in Columbus as well.
I have a lot of fond memories of visiting the peach state, beautiful countryside... GA clay, Stone Mtn, beautiful undeveloped beach fronts, and the list goes on. I actually learned to waterski on Lake West Point when I was a little kid. As I reflect on it, I can't believe I was so excited to get into the water with all those water moccasins swimming around!
Take care,
Jason

I spend most of my lake time at Lanier or Allatoona and have only seen a snake or two, though I am sure more were around.
We just got back from Trackrock. I always park on the street to clear the drive way before backing in. My daughter stepped out of the truck and spotted a 4 foot king snake about two steps away. That is probably the only snake I can readily identify and not be scared of. We watched it go back in the woods - towards my house!
Georgia does have its share of good camping areas, from the coast to the mountains and everything in between. We have already been to the beach(Fl), the mountains, and the flats.
Keep on camping wherever you are!
Later,
David

Cherie and David,
We are heading to Track Rock on Friday with a group of my co-workers. Site no. 51. We have heard good things about it . Are the sites level and spacious? We wanted full hook-up but were too late with reservations. Do you think a satellite dish will work there?
Thanks, Deb

I did not go up where those sites are. I stayed in site #3, and never made it past the first bath house. Many of the sites are on hills, but I had little trouble pulling my 2553 into and out of #3. I only drug slighlty going in, and with the gravel road and rain at the time, it was no problem.
It is a pretty campground. Very kid friendly. Only a couple of very slightly negative comments. Many of the sites are are not clearly numbered and there seemed to be a lot of flies, possibly due to the stables nearby.
On the positive side, we did go on a horse back ride and had a great time. I recommend the 2 hour ride, though a little expensive, the ride was nice. There is plenty of room for kids to play, including two forts for them to play around. The employees were all nice and helpful. 'Honor system' available for purchasing ice and firewood after hours was very convenient.
We also headed up to Brasstown Bald. The day was fairly clear and the view was nice. The .6 mile walk up from the parking lot was STEEP!
Have a great time!
BTW - I would still like to get a SouthEast meet and greet organized. Let me know if you are interested and maybe we can get a small group together in the next few months.
Later,
David

Gail and I have two long trips already reserved up in the Adironcack Mountains plus some shorter hops:
May 27 to 30 at Sampson State Park on Seneca Lake near Geneva NY.
June 10 to 19 at Fish Creek Ponds State Park between Tupper and Saranac Lake, NY (Site 147)
August 5 to 20 back to Fish Creek Ponds for 14 days (Site 150)
September 25 to 28 at Nicks Lake State Park near Old Forge, NY for the SunlineClub.com Fall Adirondack Meet and Greet (Site 53)
I just checked ReserveAmerica.com for site availability for the Adirondack M&G. We picked Loop C for the M&G, and last I looked, we have 8 couples coming plus we reserved an extra site for the M&G events. As of now, there are still 6 sites available in the loop: #39 (30' max. trailer) #43 (20'), #46 (20'), #49 (30'), #50 (40'), and #51 (30'). There are also some adjacent sites in Loops B and D that are within a few yards of the M&G area in Loop C.
We are pretty casual about group events, and plan some group meals in last couple of weeks before the M&G. There's plenty to see and do in the area, and fall camping at Nicks Lake is about as good as it gets.
You're all invited! If you want more info, drop me a note via email or PM, or check out the sticky thread over in the M&G forum.
