AM/FM Antenna

Hello everyone,
T-2363 Solaris owner wants to replace am/fm radio antenna. It's mounted on top and is the old long metal kind with the spring at the base. It's just in really bad shape both functionally and cosmetically. Do I need to replace with the same kind of antenna or can I switch to one of those flexible vinyl antennas? Thanks for any help

The only radio antennas in the rv parts and accessories catalog (which every rv dealer uses it) are pretty much the same as is on there now. I can't tell from the catalog picture if the cable is hardwired into the antenna base or there's a connector of some kind. If they're hardwired, you might want to make sure you can pull the new cable through before attempting the replacement.

I would look at another metal one before I'd go with something flexible. I put a rubber one on my Excursion simply because the stock one will hit the top of the garage going in and out. In about three years, the rubber is cracking down near the base from the wind pushing it around. It doesn't spend all the time outside and doesn't have a ton of miles of wind pushing up against it. I don't treat it with 303 usually, but it does get washed with soap when I wash the whole vehicle. For the roof location up there like that, I wouldn't want to go with something rubber. You won't get a very long life out of it.

Thanks for the info. I found another metal one on line, so I'll just replace it with what's there. Thanks for the time

Send a message via AIM to quaddriver
try crutchfield (or equivalent) and look into a Fuba - like what is used on VWs and the like....expensive, but unobtrusive and will last....
