2012 Chanilty VA Camping show

Just wondering who might be attending the camping show at Chantily VA this coming week-end? Barb and I plan to go on Saturday. Not sure there is much new but we still go every year.

By the way is there a show in Richmond VA this year?

Depending on our schedule this weekend, we would like to work it in. We have never been to the Chantilly one. Is it like the Hershey one, size wise?

I would like to go to the show, guess I'll just have to wait to see "if" Gary has to work this weekend. I need to look around, as there is a site where you can print a "whooping" $1.00 off admission coupon. I go, collect the brochures, then I have something to look at when I am home. And of course I compare what's at the show to the quality of our wonderful Sunlines. You can also pick up some ideas for modifications (which could be dangerous )

Hi All,

I'll be at the Dulles/Chantilly Expo RV Show this weekend. I go every year.

It is not as big as Hershey, but they do a good job for the space they have. There are lots of RV already in the parking lot as I drove by today.

A good number of the RVs will be inside. Lucky, as the weather is slated to be cold.

The Price does seem to increase every year. As Kitty says, you can save big, by downloading a $1. off Cupon.

Best Regards,

TurtleBax

Hi Ronnie,

To start a new post, go back to the "Community" screen or what ever forum you have a topic for and look for the "New Topic" button just above the Threads in Forum wording.

Hope this helps

The Chanilty show is much smaller than Hershey, but its doable in one day. Barb and I go to Hershey but run out of both daylight and energy before we come close to seeing the entire show. Although at Hershey they do tend to have a lot of duplicate rigs.

By the way has anyone noticed that the dealers are handing out far fewer brochures about their products. now you have to ask, which I can understand in this economy.

OK, Gary has to work on saturday, so we will be going to the show on Sunday. He has already warned me that I will not be capable of going in/out of every rig that is there (I never do that anyway). Now I need to find the site to print out our whooping $1.00 off coupons. Anyone else going to the show on sunday ?????

We have been to the Chantilly show several times and enjoy it. But, it can be a very busy during the afternoon on Sat & Sun which I assume is their peak times. And. in past years, they used both buildings and there was lots to see. We went last year and everything was in one building so to provide space for the RVs, they didn't have as many campground and vendor booths as before. We'll probably wait and go to the Richmond show next month.

Actually, you save $3 off the $10 admission if you buy your tix online: Progressive Insurance 26th Annual Washington Camping RV Expo | GS Events

Let us know how Chantilly was! We went to the Allentown show today, which is VERY small. The best thing we saw there was MakersMark (Jay and Jolynn)! It was great running into some Sunline friends

The show in Chantily was a little disappointing, I guess once you have been to Hershey the rest of the shows pale by comparison. Actually the only rig that I saw that I was impressed with was the Winsor a 30 foot 5th wheel by Excel. These look like first rate rigs but are rather pricey and you have to buy a new truck too.

We did run into Bob the guy that sold us both of our Sunlines. He left Rest wheels and is now up at the dealer that is in Falling Waters West Virgina.

I can recommend the York, PA RV show. It's not huge like Hershey, but it's 2 buildings, and pretty darn big for an indoor winter show. We spent most of a day at this show last year. It's March 9-11.

Well, we went to the show on saturday. We decided to walk around the exterior perimeter first to check out the campground/product vendors, the normal stuff from kitchen knives, pots, etc. was being displayed, and lots of campgrounds/resorts wanting you to register to ""WIN"" a free weekend, (yep been there done that you won a free weekend crap). I don't sign up for any of that stuff.

After we walked the perimeter, we headed to the snack bar area to meet up with Turtlebax and her husband. We spent at least an hour with them discussing what else, but Sunlines. Hopefully we were able to give them some good tips on what to look for when inspecting a trailer.

Next, we proceeded to start to walk the floor to see what RV's were on display, well, we didn't get real far before we got to the Excels. We had been in a few other 5'ers before that, one Jayco we looked at was nice, but WOW, the Excels are beautiful. We sat in the rear living room L36CFE Excel Limited with the full body paint and a show "sale" price of $106,000, but it was beautiful, if your rich . Then we went in the Winslow D31RLE, which had the full rear wall entertainment center/storage. We spent hours in both units, probably a little more in the Winslow. Then, are you sitting down for this, we actually let them give us a price on trading "Sunny" for the D31RLE. Now the D31RLE has a show "sale" price of $75,000, and they would give us $12,000 for Sunny. That is an upgrade that we can't do at this time, as I feel to purchase a rig of that quality & price we'd have to be more than weekend, vacation rv'er. If we were retired and could spend lots of time on the road with it, yes it would be worth it, but with both of us still working, Sunny still has a home. Don't tell Gary this, but now I wish I had gone along with getting the Sunline 344SR or maybe even the 345SR. OH well, I guess that's why there are so many different makes, models & floorplans.

OH, can't give you a better report on the show, because once we got to the Excels, well we NEVER made it to any other RV's.

Hiller and Kitty, Those Excels do make you drool don't they? Same with the Cameo, DRV, NuWa, and New Horizons. Call me cheap, but even with our plans to full time for a year we can't justify the cost. The local dealer offered us a Cameo 31something for $62K before he even knew we had a trade. But...till you buy a dually, then the camper, $$$$$$$$$$$. The Tweety starts looking pretty darn good!

Hi All,

The show did seem smaller this year. With a slight bent towards large 5th Wheels.

It was nice to meet Kitty and Gary and talk Sunlines, as were are totally new to these trailers.

While Kitty and Gary were lost in the Excel 5ers, I looked for the Airstreams which have been there in past years. I didn't see any at the show, which was dissapointing. I was able to check out the Lance trailers, which I had been wanting to see.

If you are interested in Excel 5th wheels the NuWa Industries web site has several used Excel units for sale. I really liked the Windslow they had at the show but its to pricey for me.

Rich,

To be interested in the Excel is one thing, to justify the cost of one is another thing. "IF" we were able to spend more time using the rig, then cost might not be such a big issue. But, for weekends and 2-3 weeks vacation a year we can't justify the cost of an Excel at this time. But, they will remain at the "top" of our "Replacement List". I think it would be a fantastic Sunline replacement when the time comes.

We also liked the rear living room Winslow. But, I have to admit Gary & I both liked the Excel Limited they had there. That rear living room with the fireplace/entertainment center was fantastic. The kitchen was wonderful, and no matter what a person was doing in the kitchen, it would not interfere with living room activities. But, honestly, I don't need that much kitchen, as Gary & I are very "plain" eaters. We don't do many meals that need a lot of prep time or space.

Gary would always have to be going around emptying cabinets behind me to "keep the weight down"

Kitty
