2008 Eastern M&G Dinner Poll – DEAD LINE MAY 16TH
This is a 3rd and new post, starting over so we can get an accurate count.
We got information on Buttonwood’s CG dinner, which includes:
Buttonwood Dinner:
CG will be cooking Hams
(note - their cooking hams, it's not a pig roast).
Families attending are to bring a dish to pass.
Cost is $3.00 / person (kids < 12 are free)
Located / seating will be in the pavilion by the Pool
So our options are:
 1. Have our own Pot-Luck Dinner, which would include:
Everyone provide their own meat, drinks, and place settings,
Bring a dish to pass.
The CG has said we can use the large tent in the group area for this.
We will plan the details of this later as we get closer to the event.
OR
 2. Attend the CG Ham Dinner, which would include:
CG provide meat - $3.00 cost / person
Bring a dish to pass.
By voting for the CG dinner indicates that you plan to attend that dinner.
So if you vote for and plan on going to the CG dinner, please post a reply indicating how many people will be attending.
The campground would like to know what are plans are a month prior to our arrival and a count if any of our group will be attending their dinner.
Even though the campground owners would be happy if we participated in their dinner, they are not expecting it and would not take offense if we had our own pot-luck dinner.
Again, this year the CG has provided us with the use of the large tent for the week-end and our own Pot-Luck dinner if we choose and other group activities, such as breakfasts, camp fires, etc.
IMO - I think our own pot-luck dinner would be more fun and provide us greater opportunity to get to know each other better. But that's just my $0.02.
Thanks
Hutch

I'm not being "snobbish" but I voted to do the "Sunline Club" meal option. I feel bad about not participating in the campground held event, but I'd rather stay with the Sunline folks.

Me too. As John B pointed out in a previous discussion, the idea of a M&G is to get to meet people we've been socializing with via this forum. I just felt like that end is better met with our own dinner.

It worked great last year with the pot-luck. I am sure it will be even better this year.

Sue & I would rather be with y'all!!!! That's what a meet & greet is supposed to be. We vote to have our own dinner and break bread with family!!! Marshall
BTW.......I don't think it's snobbish as long as we tell the CG our plans before hand and Hutch took care of that..........Thanks Hutch!!!

Great minds think alike. At least that's what the poll results seem to indicate. Since we were not able to attend last year's M&G, we are looking forward to meeting everyone this year.
Just out of curiosity, how do we go about cooking for so many people under one tent? Does BYO meat also include BYO grill? Do most people make it easy with burgers and franks; or is this more the steaks/ribs type of crowd?

Al,
Last year many brought grills and some shared.
Wrt meat, last year it ranged from hamburgers, to chicken, to filets.
So it's what ever you want type of group

Al,
Notice the Rich & Barb's large grill on the left side:
A little smaller version (I believe this was Mike & Roz's):
And then there were still plenty of us who brought it already prepared.

Hutch
Thanks for calling and sorting this out for us. Much appreciated. We are really looking forward to this. We have voted and chose to break bread with the Sunline Club members for this event. Missed last year so it will be good to put the faces to the keyboards…
Cooking time is always a real good yak session. And to pic up some new cooking tips/recipes. We will be doing Dutch oven style and already have the recipe picked out. When do we get to post them? Or is that a surprise?
I have yet to ever walk away from one of these camping folks pot lucks hungry. Generally it is, gee I should not of ate so much, but it sure was good…
Also glad to hear about the tent. That time of year can be real hot or wet. The tent offers an escape from both.
Thanks
John and Cindy

John,
I was just thinking about submitting an idea to Sarah about adding a recipe forum. I know I've got a whole binder full of dutch oven recipes in the trailer somewhere. However, the first entry would have to be the baggie omelets.
The only problem is it might cause all the women in the group to hang there. I don't know if we have enough moderators .
Heck, my Mom might even join for that. She needs some positive influence after the Cooking Light concoction she made the other night .

John and Cindy ( and others)
We'll establish a pot-luck dinner sign-up post probably late-May / early June for people to post / sign-up for a dish to share.
However, if you want to start thinking about it early, here’s an initial concept of categories and needs:
Fire Wood (4 families; 2 for Fri. night; 2 for Sat. night)
Appetizers (6 families)
Salads/Side Dishes (6 families)
Deserts (6 families)
Right now we expect ~50 people, so if the shared dishes were able to serve 10 – 15 people I think that would be sufficient.
If anyone has other suggestion or ideas for the pot-luck dinner wrt dishes to share, please pass them along.
Last year we had so much food, that for those of us that stayed Sunday night also, we just pulled out leftovers and had dinner.
Hutch

I think I'd call the salad catagory salad/side dishes, so there's an area for hot side dishes like baked beans and such.

I never leave home without a rank of firewood thrown in the back of the truck so sign me up in that catagory. I'll let Sue handle the grub!! Marshall

Yes, we need to expand the Salads category to include hot side dishes or else we have to start looking for a new recipe…. Our side dish is a hot one.
The appetizers/sides dishes sometimes end up sort of a blend depending on what the item is. Those great little meat balls go good for both…. And hope someone is bringing I'm sure we will all eat what ever shows up.
We can bring food no problem, but firewood is an issue. We are out of state and are not suppose to transport firewood due to the Ash Borer quarantine. Came in on board a ship from overseas and is a real big deal as there is no natural enemy here. Really do not know how they will stop it.
I do not know what PA has for wood transport rules. IN, MI and OH we cannot transport cross state lines. When we camp with folks from the IN, or MI, the ones local to that state bring the wood or we end up buying it at the camp ground. And even then sometimes we cannot transport within certain counties of the state. Mother nature out of balance.
Is it June yet??

There was a state notice posted at Old Mill Stream last fall advising not to transport firewood across state lines. Didn't really call it a ban, seemed more of an advisory. But, stated if you brought wood to burn it or leave it, do not take home. Anyhow, it would be a good idea for the wood to be from PA residents. BTW, it was like four bugs they were concerned about.
I'll second the motion, COME ON JUNE!!!!!

Pot-Lucks are always fun, a lot of times you can taste something that may be new to you. So definately sign us up for that. We are looking forward to the M&G and can't wait to meet everyone. Thanks to everyone working behind the scenes to make this happen.
