1986 T-1550 roof question
Hello
I have a 1986 T-1550. The trailer is in excellent shape because of the quality of construction. I bought the trailer last summer from an elderly couple who couldn't travel with it anymore. The trailer had a new axle installed last April '06, so i should only have to do basic maintenance and cleaning to be ready to camp . The size is perfect for me and my wife. I will be getting it out of storage this weekend. It has an aluminum roof with a couple of seams. I was looking for ideas to seal the roof and seams. It hasn't had any leaks but I would like to do some preventative work to keep it water tight.
Thank you in advance for any help.
Chris

May sound crazy, and I haven't done it myself, but what about spraying it with the material they use to spray pickup truck beds. Make it white to reflect light/heat, and I would think you'd be good to go for years to come.

Hi Chris,
I had a '86 1550 with a lot of roof problems. I am just on my way out the door, but I promise to get back with you later on exactly what to do. Basically, there is a RV Roof Seam Sealer available at any RV dealer, just wipe it on with a paint brush. Quite simple, and the roof will last a lot longer.

Hi Chris,
Back again! Well, as I said before, you should use a roof seam sealer available at your RV dealer. It's the Dyco 20/20 Seam Seal:
As I said before, all you have to do is brush it on with a paint brush, on all the roof seams and the edges where the roof meets the sidewalls. Also, coat around roof vents and the A/C, if applicable. Make sure the whole roof is clean and dry before you do this. The aluminum roof is a very durable roof material that will by far outlast rubber. I actually prefer aluminum because of its easy maintain. Before you brush on any seam seal, make sure you pick at the seams with your hand and pull off any loose pieces. Putting the new seal over cracked seals will just allow water to seep in and the new stuff to just come off easier.
I bought mine quite cheap because it had this hole in the roof:
It actually was right next to a roof rafter, so I just cut the hole larger for a roof vent. Everything was covered by the previous owner, so there was no water damage at all.
Let me know if you have any questions. I still have a complete owners book from mine, so I can look something up if you don't have one.
Jon

Thanks for the replies
I brought the camper home this morning . I plugged it in and the heat came on the third try. I will be going out today to pick up the seam sealer so i can seal the seams when we get a couple of nice days. Sunline Fan do you think it is possible to make a copy of the owners manual and send it to me? I hate to bother you but it is something that is hard to find being over 20 years old. I would be willing to send you some money to cover copies and postage. I don't have a manual. I down loaded the manual from this site but it is very dark and tough to read.
Thanks again
Chris
