Tankless Water Heater

Anyone have any experience with tankless water heaters? We have a 1982 Sunline 14 1/2 RK and our water heater tank developed a leak. In looking at replacements, they seem to be rather expensive and I've found the tankless models, which would seem to offer more hot water than using the actual tank and are seeming to be cheaper, but don't know a lot about them other than what I've read online. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hello fellow Virginian!

You may want to search the forum as there have been some discussion on tankless water heaters. Not sure if anyone has actually installed one.

There is a member (Draughty) that had someone weld repair his tank. Not sure if that is an option for you.

I am sure the more knowledgeable members will be along soon.

Or...

you can do what I did. I had an 1985 13.5ft and our water heater started to leak. After our last trip I pulled out the heater (took my sweet time). Unwrapped the insulation. I lightly sanded down the aluminum surrounding the leak with a "finer" sand paper.

Then I applied a fiberglass mixture, same stuff used for automotive use.
You should overlap at the very least 30% to 50% of the area that appears rotted. Let that fix cure for slightly longer than recommended. Then, before reinstalling the tank, fill it with water, slosh it around until you're satisfied that it does not leak.

This way you keep thing factory and original. I think my repair cost $20.00 ???
Hope that helps

A buddy of mine put one in his trailer. He loves it. I am thinking to do the same thing. I have not experienced it myself however to give a better report.
