Converter cooling fans ?

I have a 2001 T2370 with a Centurion 3000, CS 4500 converter. The cooling fans have stopped working. I have removed the fans and they work on a 12V power supply. With a VoltOhm meter, it shows just over 3 volts on the posts where the fan wiring plugs hook to the circuit board. Has anyone had this problem and is it just time to replace the converter? It is the original and still puts out 13+ volts when hooked to shore power. I can set a desk fan in the floor blowing into the vents and the converter works fine. Without the fan, after a short while, depending on how many 12V lights are on, and without the fans working, the converter clicks off and the lights dim, and then after about 5 minutes, it apparently comes back on because the 12V lights get bright again. Any info appreciated. I tried to find this question in the forums but didn't have any luck. Sorry if it's a duplicate post.

I'm not sure if the fans are speed controlled by temp meaning they would be variable speed or on off if so they would be controlled by a electronic circuit. With no fans running it will cook the converter eventually it sounds like the converter is switching off with over heat. I don't remember all the numbers but I believe that was one that had a tendency to burn the floor underneath it. Sounds like a good time to upgrade.

I had to replace the converter. It was charging 13.8 but was overheating. Replaced it with a WF8955 which gave me 10 more amps DC. Now if I can find the thermal switch that turns on the fans, I'll see if I can fix it. The 8955 fit the hole perfectly.

Sorry late on your post. I had the 2003 model CS-6000 die a fan death. However this may be after Centurion went out of business and I think American Enterprises took over. The fan control on mine just went to toast. Plus it was only a 2 stage converter. Float and standard charge.

I replaced it with a Progressive Dynamics 60 amp unit which has 3 stage charging and a desulfate mode. Very glad I did, it is light years better in performance and with a massive heat sink and variable speed fans that I have yet to ever hear run.

Glad you got your camper back to working with the WAFCO

Thanks

John

Which PD unit did you get, also did you just replace the Power Converter or the control panel.

Converter replacement

WOW, this original post was from 2018. I don't remember which converter I replaced the original with. In 2019 I had what I thought was a minor accident with the trailer but insurance totaled it out. Sorry.

I also replaced mine with a progressive dynamics. Not sure of model and trailer is in winter storage. I remember it didn't fit cutout hole in trailer. So I disassembled Centurion and the PD did some sheet metal modifications on original case and mounted the progressive dynamics converter in case. I then was able to mount it back into the original opening.

Hi,

What year and model camper do you have? And what brand and model power converter do you currently have?

I have done two 2004 Sunlines that had the American Enterprise 60 amp power converter in them. In both cases I used the 60 amp Progressive Dynamics PD9260C. That model is what they consider a deck mount. Meaning, the converter comes with fans and the stand alone power converter only. I kept the 120 V AC breakers and 12 V DC fuse blocks out of the old power converter and wired the new PD converter output to the 12 volt DC fuse block to power up the existing system.

Here is a post on the first one on a 2004 T310SR. I had to build a box to hold the PD converter on this one due to limited space on that floor plan in the power center area. https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f...rade-8888.html

The second one was a 2004 T1950 that had the same American Enterprise 60 amp converter, and I did the same PD converter upgrade. In this case I was able to mount the PD deck mount behind the original converter, after I cut out the back plastic housing where the old American converter control board use to be. Then wired the 12 V DC power wires back to the old fuse block. I have pictures of this if you want to see the install, let me know I upload them.

Hope this helps

John
