View Newest Posting
why is it that the option to "view newest posting" apprears on some posts but not all.....it seems EMD never has that option (sorry to pick on you Gary!)....and some of Hutch's are that way as well.....does it have something to do with the age of the post?
I do understand if there are "no new posts" it won't show....I'm old but not that old LOL!!!!

I've noticed the same thing. One on JohnB's posts has so many pictures that I need to roll my mouse 36 times to get to the 2nd post! Then there are threads (this one) that only have 1 post, yet the "view first unread" option is present.

Great question Kathy. I find that on some I am offered the "View newest post", and some I am not. I really like being able to go directly to the newest post. Wonder if it is some setting ? So now inquiring minds want/need to know

Just a wild guess (I'm not "techy"), but could the threads without "view first unread" option be posted from a Blackberry or something? As Kathy stated, some of Hutch's threads have option and some don't (same with JohnB's).
BTW, Kathy and Kitty, are you seeing "newest post" option? I see "v(in a blue box) View First Unread" in upper left corner directly below the "post reply" button. I, too, prefer to go directly to the first unread post as opposed to scolling and checking time of post to find it.

I think you only find the "View first unread post" in a message thread where there is a new message and you have not read yet. Once you display the page with the new unread message and then navigate away from it, the link disappears because the software "thinks" you have read the new message.

Yes, Steve, the option does disappear once the thread has been opened until a new post has again been made.
The trouble we are having is that the option is never there, even the first time we open the thread when it has new posts added.
I open threads by clicking on bolded ones in the "Recent Sunline Discussions" box on the right, so I know they have unread posts and the option should appear. After opening a bolded thread, it becomes unbolded until another post is added.

The wording is what you posted "View First Unread" but everyone seemed to understand what it was that I was getting at.....its got to be that old age thing creeping up on me.....
Steve....I'm doing the same as Clueless - using the links on the right "Recent Sunline Discussions" which indicates a new post to the topic but on some of the "topics" it will not show the "View First Unread" across the top of the topic......

Yeah, I finally got it to do the same for me. One time it was there, and another is wasn't even though there was a new post in the topic.
Weird.
Some of the other forums I read use the same software. I will keep an eye out for the same fluke.

Wanda,
To find your posts, click on your user name (top right corner of any page--it says "Welcome, Wanda~Lust.") Then click on statistics and view all posts.

Kitty,
Do you remember if you posted your " Where are you from? Knowing this helps" thread differently than others you've started?
I ask because the "view first unread" option isn't available on that thread, but is on others you've started.
Hopefully this glitch can be figured out soon. It is nice to be able to jump right to the unread posts without having to scroll through a dozen or so (or more) old posts while watching the "date/time" to find the unread posts.
Anyone else whose threads don't offer this option, can you think of any reason the option isn't available?

I am getting "view first unread" for Kitty's "Where are you from?" thread, so I don't think it is anything in the start up of a new thread.
And that makes it all the more curious!

All I know is that on "some" new threads it is not there on others it is......I have to admit that I was happy to hear others having the same problem.......and yes it would be nice to have it on every thread "with" new posts.

Now that the "Where are you from?..." thread has 15 posts and has gone to page 2, I am finally getting the option. Other posts have option if there are only 2 posts and still on first page.
Wish someone could shed some light on this.

I have noticed sometimes that if a post is made before I leave the forum it may not have a button to "view first unread" when I come back the next time. I usually use the New Posts link at the top of the page and it shows both "new" and "not new but unread".
Added: Sometime it helps to hit the "refresh" button on your browser.
FWIW - I am using IE6, could the problem depend on what browser you are using?

Didn't start that post any differently than I do any of the others. I too have some that give me the option to "View first Unread", but not all the time.
I use any one of three different puters. My desktop is a Vista, don't know what my Toshiba laptop is but is was purchased in July 2005, and my baby Dell is about 2.5 years old.
