Sunline Advertising Trivia

Fellow Sunliner's

Here is a trivia contest.

1. What manufactures still to this day (Dec. 2010) use Sunline travel trailers in their advertising? (1 Point each)

2. What manufacture used a Sunline travel trailer in 2007 in one of their technical documents? (1 Point each)

If you want bonus points;

3. Tell the year and model of the camper for questions 1 and 2. (1 Point each for each camper)

4. I know of at least 2 manufactures for question 1 and 1 for question 2. If you can find more manufactures using Sunlines in their literature you get 1 point for each additional manufacture and 1 point for knowing the model and year.

Rules:

You will need to post a web link here on where you found your information so we can all see. If you have problems posting links, PM me or one of the other moderators and we can help.

If no one responds by December 31, 2010 with the 3 known manufactures, I will post the answers to questions 1 and 2. Bonus points to win can still be made by forum members as questions 3 and 4 will still be open. We can always have a new champion if question 4 is updated with new information.

Finding the model and year from an outside picture can be tricky and we may need to call upon forum members to get a consensus.

So yes, this is a contest where you can actually win over the person creating the contest…

Good Luck!

- On page 174 of the 2010 Camping World Master Catalog, Camping World's endorsed campgrounds for the free 3 day/2 night vacation ad in the 2010 catalog has a '97-'98 2653 in the picture. I think it's a '97 vs. a '98 because I see what looks more like a black fenderskirt instead of a white one. I also see what looks like the small Solaris logo sticking out up front from behind that tree, so that eliminates '99 as a possibility.

- In the December 2010 Trailer Life (P. 60), RVSearch.com uses the '00 Advancer Lite that was featured in a Trailer Life test. They tested the '00 Advancer L-25J in the October, 1999 issue with the first Cadillac Escalade, and did so up by the Mackinaw bridge. Note that the picture in the RVSearch ad is the reverse image of the Trailer Life test image.

- There was that aftermarket step thing that used the I think '91 Sunline next to it, and they used that ad for a long time. Even though I do have a copy of it upstairs in all of my stuff, I don't see it in the recent TL or Highways.

You are the king of technical documents... I wouldn't have a clue where to start. Any hint as to if it's in the form of a picture, specifications, etc? Also, are we talking about a parts/accessories supplier, or another RV manufacturer?

Jon, Very cool!

Since you found 2 corporations using the Sunline and honed in on the year/model, that gives you 4 points. Your in the lead.

For this one:

Help us if you can on where you saw that and what a "step thing" is. I'm interested!!! This one is for sure worth a point if you can just give us a little more on this as I have no clue on how to confirm it

So you are heading to 5 points on your first go at this and and may even beat me since you submitted new entries!!

Actually you do have a clue…and I’ll give you some more. Knowing you I have to watch how I do this as I was afraid you would guessed it right out of the gate.

Since you came in with new entries we have never seen, I'll give you 2 clues for today and a bonus clue.

Clue 1. For item 2, you yourself own a product from this manufacture. For item 1 which has 2 manufactures I know for sure you own a product from one of them. Actually thinking about it you may have a product from both manufactures of item 1.

Clue 2. Item 1, both manufactures have Sunlines in a online video.

Clue 3. A bonus. Every time you take your present Sunline out camping you use a product from item 1 and 2. Well I think every time. For sure one of the item 1’s and I’m fairly sure on item 2.

If you still come up dry, let me know I’ll give you some more clues.

So for everyone else following along, what manufacture of products does Sunline Fan go camping with? He brings them to every M & G he attends.

Mike, Wow Great! Another manufacture still useing Sunline in 2010.

That is a 3rd manufacture for Question 1!

That is 1 point for Mike. If you want a 2nd point identify the model and year of the camper.

Now seeing the Page Foam web site I forgot about that one. Tweety linked us to that site within the last week or so about getting seat cushions and I forgot it...

A clue for you since you found a new manufacture.

Clue 1. You go camping with a product from the manufacture of Question 2 every campout. Well you have ever since I have know you anyway.

Clue 2. You "do not" go camping with a product from the manufacture of Question 1. Or at least that I know of... I checked them again last night as I thought they use to use a Sunline, but not any more.

So what does Sunline Fan and you have in common that you go camping with (think question 2) and what do the 2 of you have that are both good products but are different brands? (think question 1.)

OK I'll throw a few hints out

For this question:

2. What manufacture used a Sunline travel trailer in 2007 in one of their technical documents? (1 Point each)

Hints:

A. Both Sunline Fan and 264SRin PA go camping each trip with a product made from the manufacture of item 2.

B. Look in their SOC signature. What manufacture do they both have in common?

C. The manufacture of item 2 generally issues an updated technical document each year to help camper folks like us with their product. What do they issue each year open to the public? And you do not have to buy one to get it?

D. What year would this technical document be issued in? (Hint look at the question.)

E. Blue is a favorite color of this manufacture.

F. You can find the technical document on line under the manufactures fleet site or other various places.

G. For folks new or seasoned to TT's and 5ths wheels, what technical document might they look in to help them select a product to be a better match to work well with their camper?

H. Trailer Life issues every year a similar generic techncial document however it covers many manufactures.

I. There are many SOC forum members using the same manufacture of the product in question 2.

OK let’s see if this stirs up the pot some.

I haven't seen the ad, but those are some pretty good hints, so I'm thinking it is

Quote:

Ford trucks (the best).

Quote:
C. The manufacture of item 2 generally issues an updated technical document each year to help camper folks like us with their product. What do they issue each year open to the public? And you do not have to buy one to get it?
The technical document would be the tow(& payload/weight) ratings.

Quote:
D. What year would this technical document be issued in? (Hint look at the question.)
If it was for the 2007 model year, it would have been issued in 2006

Quote:
E. Blue is a favorite color of this manufacture.
My ex's favorite color is "Ford tractor blue". He wanted to paint all of his equiptment trailers (he has a landscaping business) that color and would have painted the house (inside and out) if I'd have let him!

BTW, I'm glad you posted this quiz John. If anyone else has an idea for a quiz or game, please feel free to post it!

Clueless Camper now joins the game. YEH

Dona, you have partially answered the requirement of Question 2. Since you are so close to nailing this all I can state is there is nothing way off base in your last post but it is not the total answer. So I can award ˝ a point for what you have correct. I just can’t yet tell you exactly what are the correct parts yet or it would give away the total answer.

The rules stated:

Rules:

You will need to post a web link here on where you found your information so we can all see. If you have problems posting links, PM me or one of the other moderators and we can help.

So if you can find what you stated and show it to us, there is still a 1/2 a point yet to be gained by anyone.

And remember there is still question 3 where anyone still can gain a bonus point for identifying the model and year of the Sunline once they find it.

Some hints: See hint F above for one place to find the online answer you are missing.

More hints:

Question 1. What manufactures still to this day (Dec. 2010) use Sunline travel trailers in their advertising? (1 Point each)

J. BTW, you also use a product from question 1 and so does 264SR in PA, however it is not the same brand if I recall right. If you remember what Sunline Fan’s brand was your 1/2 the way there. That goes for him too…Neither one of you listed it in your forum signature so I can’t give you that as a hint to look at…. But… Others have. Hint, Hint.

K. The product used in question 1 is a very important part of getting your camper to the campground. Don’t leave home without it.

L. Color of the product used in question 1 is black by that manufacture. However they also come in orange, yellow, gray, red and probably other colors by other manufactures.

M. There is a technical forum on SOC has a lot of discussion about these products.

N. For the most part, the product in question 1 is made from steel, cast steel and tempered steel. The parts are painted or plated for the most part. The parts that are not plated or painted, rust.

O. As a forum collective, we recommend everyone use the product in quesiton 1 as a safe part of camping when they have a large enough Sunbline.

OK lets see where this gets us

Because of the white fender skirts, placement of the front door and fridge vent, I think it's a 2007 T-2363 in the Ford tow ratings.
https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/...guideApr08.pdf
p.2

Regarding hints J, M, N and O; I think I asked you about a repair to mine but I don't know what brand Sunline Fan has. If I'm on the right track, then hint L is about a different product so I need to do some searching for two products.

I'm off to search...

Aw geez, I have a few copies of that and never saw it in there before! It's an '05 2363 though, because it's the standard style fender skirts, has bottom gold metal but isn't radius metal, and has the blue striping with swirled ends.

An E-series Van is also towing the same 2363 down on page 21.

Shoot, we were looking at it at just about the same time...

It's an '03 260 or 267SR, not sure which yet. Have to pull some pictures because from this side, it's very very similar.

It's a '03 267SR with the front island bed. The corner bed put the front window up near the front corner whereas this island bed option put it farther back. The 260SR had the window farther forward due to the flip up TV shelf being mounted by the slide, but they didn't put one in the 267SR so the window could move farther back toward the slide.

Wow, that was difficult... These units are identical in the rear corner and on the off door side, so the window and fixture patterns are almost identical.

John, I'm digging really deep here to try to find another product that would use a Sunline. Based on what you've said for the possible colors, I just can't think of what it could be. The bright colors such as orange and yellow really throw me when combined with a black option...

Now I'm curious, is this something I have with the trailer, or is it one of my dad's toys that he brings along?

Wow, Cool this has picked up now… GREAT!!!

OK we need to do a recap on where we are at, who has what points and what is left.

Here where the questions:

Here is a trivia contest.

1. What manufactures still to this day (Dec. 2010) use Sunline travel trailers in their advertising? (1 Point each)

Reese is the trade name of one of the manufactures that still today uses a Sunline in there advertising. See video. Weight Distribution - Reese

So 1 point goes to Clueless Camper for Reese.

There is still at least 1 more manufacture that uses Sunline travel trailers in their advertising.

2. What manufacture used a Sunline travel trailer in 2007 in one of their technical documents? (1 Point each)

Ford Motor Co. is the name of the manufacture that used a Sunline TT in their 2007 Towing Guide. https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/...guideApr08.pdf

So 1 point goes to Clueless Camper for Ford.

If you want bonus points;

3. Tell the year and model of the camper for questions 1 and 2. (1 Point each for each camper)

For Reese, Sunline Fan gets 1 point for the correct TT. 2003 267SR

For Ford, Sunline Fan gets 1 point for the correct camper. A 2005 2363. The fenders and pin stripes are unique to 2005.

4. I know of at least 2 manufactures for question 1 and 1 for question 2. If you can find more manufactures using Sunlines in their literature you get 1 point for each additional manufacture and 1 point for knowing the model and year.

Now to New entries I did not know even existed….

Sunline Fan racks up 6 more points for:

On page 174 of the 2010 Camping World Master Catalog. A 1997- 2653 (2 points)

December 2010 Trailer Life (P. 60), RVSearch.com uses the '00 Advancer Lite. (2 points) I just looked this one up myself. Yup I missed it….

Trailer Life tested the '00 Advancer L-25J in the October, 1999 (2 points)

Now 264SRin PA comes in with a new entry that Tweety posted here on SOC a few weeks ago with Page Products. So Mike gets 1 point.

Welcome to Page Foam Cushioned Products

A recap of who ranking where at as of this post.

Sunline Fan with 8 points.

Clueless Camper with 2 points.

264SRinPA with 1 point.

So what points are still left unclaimed that at least I know of….

2 points not yet collected on the 2nd manufacture that still today uses a Sunline in their advertising and what year/model the camper is.

1 point for identifying the camper year/model in the Page Products web site.

And if anyone else still comes up with more manufactures using Sunlines in any year, they can still clean house.

The race is still on!

Now for some answers to the hints…. Well so far anyway.

To Sunline Fan

Clue 1. For item 2, Sunline Fan owns a product from this manufacture. For item 1 which has 2 manufactures I know for sure you own a product from one of them. Actually thinking about it you may have a product from both manufactures of item 1.

Sunline Fan has a Reese WD hitch and a Ford Excursion

Clue 2. Item 1, both manufactures have Sunlines in a online video.

Reese is one which has the video.

Clue 3. A bonus. Every time Sunline Fan takes his present Sunline out camping you use a product from item 1 and 2. Well I think every time. For sure one of the item 1’s and I’m fairly sure on item 2.

A Reese WD hitch towed by a Ford.

So for everyone else following along, what manufacture of products does Sunline Fan go camping with? He brings them to every M & G he attends.

A Reese WD hitch towed by a Ford.

To 264SRinPA

Clue 1. You go camping with a product from the manufacture of Question 2 every campout. Well you have ever since I have know you anyway.

Mike has a Ford F250

Clue 2. You "do not" go camping with a product from the manufacture of Question 1. Or at least that I know of... I checked them again last night as I thought they use to use a Sunline, but not any more.

Mike has or did have, an Equal-I-zer WD hitch.

So what does Sunline Fan and you have in common that you go camping with (think question 2) and what do the 2 of you have that are both good products but are different brands? (think question 1.)

Both Mike and Jon have Ford truck. Mike has an Equal-I-zer hitch and Jon has a Reese hitch.

To Clueless Camper
A. Both Sunline Fan and 264SRin PA go camping each trip with a product made from the manufacture of item 2.
Sunline Fan and 264SRinPA have Ford trucks.
B. Look in their SOC signature. What manufacture do they both have in common?

Sunline Fan and 264SRinPA have Ford trucks.
C. The manufacture of item 2 generally issues an updated technical document each year to help camper folks like us with their product. What do they issue each year open to the public? And you do not have to buy one to get it?

An RV Trailer Towing GuideD. What year would this technical document be issued in? (Hint look at the question.)

A 2007 Towing Guide
E. Blue is a favorite color of this manufacture.

Ford uses the Blue Oval as their symbol. On the front of most every Ford vechile. Ford also used Blue on their farm equipment. F. You can find the technical document on line under the manufactures fleet site or other various places.

Ford Fleet web siteG. For folks new or seasoned to TT's and 5ths wheels, what technical document might they look in to help them select a product to be a better match to work well with their camper?

A Towing Guide to find out each truck towing capacities.

H. Trailer Life issues every year a similar generic technical document however it covers many manufactures.

The annual Trailer Life Guide to Towing I. There are many SOC forum members using the same manufacture of the product in question 2.

We have a good number of SOC members using Ford Trucks as a TV

Hint, Hint.

I do not remember the exact brand of Clueless Campers WD hitch and I lost the pics of it but it is not a Reese. Maybe a Husky. The point was WD hitch. And I have my Reese WD hitch listed in my Sig along with a Ford truck too...

K. The product used in question 1 is a very important part of getting your camper to the campground. Don’t leave home without it.

A WD hitch

L. Color of the product used in question 1 is black by that manufacture. However they also come in orange, yellow, gray, red and probably other colors by other manufactures.

Reese uses black as their main color on their hitches so does Equal-I-zer and several other brands. Hensley has black and orange, Blue Ox is a black hitch also advertised on a yellow test stand, the Husky Centerpoint hitch is grey, Husky uses red letters.

M. There is a technical forum on SOC has a lot of discussion about these products.

There are lots of posts in the Towing forum on WD hitches and Tow Vehicles.

N. For the most part, the product in question 1 is made from steel, cast steel and tempered steel. The parts are painted or plated for the most part. The parts that are not plated or painted, rust.

Most WD hitches are made for steel and cast steel with tempered WD bars as springs.

O. As a forum collective, we recommend everyone use the product in question 1 as a safe part of camping when they have a large enough Sunbline.

As a forum we try and help anyone in need how to setup and adjust their WD hitch and antis-way control. It is a very important part of have a safe camping trip.

In case someone is wondering the hints and answers above help describe who the 2nd manufacture is for Question 1.

I don't have any pictures either and don't ever recall looking at it in super detail, but given where they bought it and at the time they did, there's a good chance it's a Robin hitch. We carried both those and the Draw-Tite.

OK Kitty enters the contest.

Well this much I do agree with.

It is a 2753. Yes

It is maple and not oak. So it is at least a 2004,

But the Fern Blue is so distorted I do not know if it is a 2004 Fern Blue or 2005 Fern Blue? Since I had qty 2, 2004 Fern blues campers and both of them where a touch different Fern blue....

So I need a life line to help back up, it is a 2004 or a 2005? Kitty what made you go to 2004?

Here is the Page pic a little blown up. If I go much more it gets real fuzzy

And here Oct 2003 manufactured as a 2004 model Fern Blue. It is a deeper blue the valances are slightly different design too.

And here is a May 2004 manufactured as a 2004 Fern Blue. I have no idea on what 2005 Fern blue looks like. The T2499 slightly newer the blue was lighter/brighter.

So Kitty gets 1/2 a point with 1/2 a point on reserve until we can clarify if this is a 2004 or 2005 T2753.

OK Kitty help show us how you got this as a 2004? I know I don't know....

John
