Kitty, I don't even attempt them on the laptop because the lack of a decent mouse drives me crazy!! 
Of course, the DW would say that's a short trip.

I have always used an optical mouse connected to my laptop. I hate that stupid pad. I got so tired of accidently bumping it and losing whatever I was doing that I taped an index card over it (a tip from my son). I taped one side of the card then pulled it tight so it doesn't sag and pressed the tape down on the other side. Works great!

Same here, I hate the touch pad.
