OK but I was under the impression (and was told) that the frig needs 12 volt to operate - so is that from the convertor or the battery???

OK so I'm getting older and can't remember some stuff...but....when we are camping and are on campground electric...do we need to have the batteries turned on or turn them off with the battery...
