The three-way valve is "open" to the two visible pipes, closed to the third "drain" side.

What I am learning is valve handle "conventions" don't mean a whole lot in these applications. :o...

That's interesting that the valve handle points away from the third port, usually they would be in-line. Learn something new.....:wink:
