I had to do that with a refrigerator in a Spaceage TT that had sat in storage for years. We called it burping back then. We would sit them on all four sides. Burner was completely full of rust.

Look for yellowish-green resides on coils or tank also check for ammonia smell in back. Both signs of leaking coils.
