Yes mine has a 2 way valve also and I use air but I only suck up enough antifreeze to fill the pump I hate the taste of that stuff. I use the end of an old garden hose with an air chuck fitting in it...

No matter what you do the tank will not be empty...

No matter what you do the tank will not be empty that however is not a problem what is left will freeze but it will not damage the tank because there is room for expansion.
