I've seen a few with the round sinks like Ben has, but I'm not sure why. Mine also has the square one. The round one was only something around in the last few years, maybe 2005 and up.

Yep, I've used the same stuff for that same purpose! I keep the little tin of it in a ziploc with a small clean paint brush, to brush it on.
