What do you use?

What is the best way to remove the black streaks on the siding? What do you use for your awning?

Awesome - you can buy it at the dollar store!

Dry it in a spot not noticable and dilute/concentrate as needed!

Spray on and don't let it sit too long, use a soft car wash brush and spray away!

Do the TT a couple of times each summer and still looks brand spanking new!

Also DH made "spouts" for the drains out of clear plastic tubing - type you get in the plumbing dept of local hardware store, drilled a hole in it and the spout and secures it with a stainless steel screw - they work better than any other I've seen - make them about 3 - 4" long and it keeps all that dirty rainwater from dripping down the side of the TT.

We bought the gutter extensions at Camping World for $6 and havent had any black spots yet!! I'd have to say it was the best $6 I've spent. They snap right in to the existing gutters and have traveled over 7000 miles so far.

Now under one of the windows, I've been noticing Black Spots from the run-off, and the Thetford Black Streak Remover makes them disapper with just spraying it on. You dont even have to scrub.

Put a good coat of wax on and you shouldnt have to scrub anything too much.

Good luck

Pat

Kathy,

Awesome is awesome! I've probably used a few dozen bottles over all the trailers. It really helps with cleaning off old dirt. It works quite well on new dirt too.

I use it both on the siding and awning. I just make sure to wash it off quickly from the striping and logos, especially if it's concentrate, or it will do damage.

We use Gel Gloss. You can buy it at your local RV store, or through Camping World. Those black streaks erase like majic.

Almost any good general-purpose cleaner, properly applied, will do the job. You probably already have a good candidate in your cleaning supplies. I use a three-phase strategy for those pesky black stains: (1) Wash entire trailer surface with a dilute cleaner. This gets most of the streaks. (2) Spray a more concentrated solution of cleaner on the remaining streaks and rub vigorously with a soft towel. This gets rid of most everything that remains. (3) If some streaks come off but leave a faint discoloration, apply a cleaner wax and rub lightly. This strategy works for me.

Be careful to follow the cleaner's recommended dilutions and use some elbow grease rather than relying on the the cleaner's chemistry to remove stains. I know there's a tendency to think if a ten percent solution works okay, then a fifty percent solution will work miracles. However, you might be doing your siding harm and you want it to last a long time.

For awnings, wash it with the same dilute cleaner you use on your siding and apply it with a desk brush. If you have mold, apply a dilute bleach solution (check label for recommended dilution), let it sit for a few minutes, scrub the awning with the deck brush and then wash off with water.

Hope this helps.
Don

JohnB is on a distinguished road
I was searching for the Awesome product for a long time and finally found it. It is in the dollar stores with the spray cleaners. Cost about a buck if I remember right.

I have the Krystal kote NO waxing alum siding.

I hose wet the side, spray the Awesome on, watch it dissolve the black streak, scrub with a car brush on a handle and then rinse off.

Yes it does dissolve the streak and make it run. If you do not get there fairly quick to scrub and hose back off, the streak will re-hardened, black up and smear.

I have tried the Simple Green, works OK. The Camco Black streak remover, works sort of OK, but the Awesome, it's unbelievable. Seeing is believing.

Heads up. When you use it on waxed fiberglass panels even with the Alum sided coaches it will strip off what ever wax or 303 protectant that was on there. So using this on an all fiberglass unit will mean a total rewax is next.

The best Black streak preventor I have found this winter was to fix my out building to have a 10 foot overhead door in it. Back it in and it works great

Here is a web link so you know what the bottle looks like.
Awesome

Happy cleaning.

John
