SHURFLO / FAN-TASTIC vent fans

Does anybody have opinions... pros or cons relating to SHURFLO or FAN-TASTIC vent fans. I wanted to install a MAXXAIR'S TURBO/MAXX but I do not have room (because of the plumbing vent) on the roof of my QUE. I will install it in the bathroom (for EXHAUST only)... either the SHURFLO silver OR FAN-TASTIC 4000

Thanks

Joe,

I think the Fan-tastic fans are fantastic! I only say this because they're the only ones I've had experience with. One downside to any type of exhaust fans in the screens. I pull them down at least once or twice per season to clean out the lint. The other downside is with the rain sensor models. The sensors are nice, but if you get a night where it's drizzling, the fan will close, but once it stops raining, it'll open again, and this pattern will keep going on unless you shut the switch off. I guess there's no way to get around this though. We've never had a problem with the fan not closing when it should though.

I believe Hutch has a Shurflo, but he hasn't installed it yet.

Jon

Joe,

Jon’s right, the DW got me a SHURflo fan for Christmas but I haven’t installed it.

I wanted the SHURflo over the Fantastic fan, because the SHURflo is bi-directional and you can operate the fan with the vent close – so it also functions like a ceiling fan.

I didn’t get one with a rain sensor because I’ll have a MaxxAir cover over it, plus I like to keep the vent open when raining and during storage.

I’ve never had a Fantastic fan, and so far haven’t used the SHURflo so I can’t comment from experience yet.

Hope this helps.
Hutch

I installed the Maxx Air fan myself which took about an hour including the electrical hookup. If you have the room, the pros: vent is always covered so no wories about rain even when the fan is off, 3 speed reversible and high volumn, can get a thermostat if you want one. I'd rather turn it on when I want to being on battery power, no intrusion on the roof material on installation. Cons: Can't think of any.

I installed the Maxx Air vent cover on the bathroom vent at the same time.

DH decided on the Fantastic Fan and it just came 2 days ago. He's had it out of the box, but has not installed it yet. We had a Fantastic in one of our other Sunlines and it was terrific. He went with Fantastic brand simply because he was pleased with the previous one.

Save your money on the Rain Sensor Models. We had one installed from the factory, and it's just stupid. If it's raining, it would go up and down constantly

We have sense put a Maxx-Air cover over it so it would solve the problem, and we could keep the fan running while it was raining out.

We also have one of the Turbo-Max fans and like this much more. With the fan being in the cover itself, the noise is much quieter and seems to draw more air.

If I had it to do over again, we would have installed 3 of them right from the factory.

Pat,

Have you noticed if the Maxx-Air cover over your Fantastic Fan inhibits air flow of it?

I've heard of some people modifying their Maxx-Air cover to a larger screen mesh to promote more air flow when it's covering a Fantastic fan.

Thanks
Hutch

Funny you ask Hutch, I've wondered the same thing, and tonight I took the screen down to see if it made a differance and neither Cindy nor I could tell.

I had to get in there to clean it a bit, and couldnt tell one way or the other. I do think that the Turbo-Max Fan puts out more air than the Fantastic Fan model and is a bit quieter.

Hope that helps

Pat

Pat,

Thanks for the info - it does help.

Mary bought me a SHURflo fan for Christmas that I'll be installing in the kitchen area.

Based on the amount of positives that I've read hear on the Maxx-Air fan, I'm thinking about getting one for the Bathroom vent. At least sometime in the future (maybe I'll put that on next years Christmas list )

Hutch

Vent Fan Info.........

Thanks for all the replies........
As I said before I can't use the TURBO/MAX (no room on roof) BUT it does have a BIG advantage (no removal of orig.vent) & can be used in the rain as Paul said. (982 CFM on hi.....amp draw=Fr:1.4 to 4.0 on hi.)

The SURFLO has the advantage of air circulation w/dome closed as Hutch said but in the bathroom I don't need that, (just exhaust) it also has a lower price. (980 CFM on hi.....amp draw=Fr:0.30 to 3.65 on hi.)

I decided to get the FAN-TASTIC #6600 w/Radio Frequency remote.
My reasons for this model.........
#1 ....Remote w/ thermostat controls all modes auto & manual (w/wall mount cradle) so,you control the temp. on the wall where you want it not on the ceiling w/fan like all their other models.
#2....Has 14 speeds on manual mode Has a VERY LOW sp.good for sleeping.
#3....VERY LOW amp draw=Fr:0.2 to 1.9 on hi. (920CFM on hi.)

ALL other FAN-TASTIC models are 3spd. & draw =Fr:1.86 to 3.00 amps on hi. w/ also (920 CFM on hi.)
The #6600 only cost me $90 more than the #4000

......... All this info. may be of some help to others.......
Now if I can get a 50+degree day to remove the old vent I will be all set. ................. Thanks again to all that replied.......Joe
