Lake Eaton - Adirondacks NYS

Hi Fellow Sunliner's

Hoping you help.

Anyone here ever camped at or visited Lake Eaton CG near Long Lake NY?

I'm late in booking and I found these sites open on the lake side coming in on a Monday during mid July. These are all sold out on the weekend.

They are sites 60 to 57 and wonder if they are on top of each other and can you even see the lake?

I have hunted the net and cannot find any pics or videos of theses campsites. Generally I turn up something.

I need a 30 foot site and have to be able to turn and back into it. Meaning the tress in the area allow the turn. All of them are listed as 30ft.

Thanks and help you can help.

John

Try to Google Earth the location, we usually find it a great help.

Hi John,
I am afraid i can't be much help to you but: I road thru the campground last June not to look for a future camping site but to see where I tent camped for many years when I was a kid back in the late 1940's. I did Not take any photos.
The sites are not to large or to small. I think sites 58-60 are not far from the lake, so they will all have a view of the lake. As far as for your TT i can't say how it will fit.
I guess that info. was from Reserve America ? I will go on that site and see if I can tell any better when I see the whole map of the campgrounds.

Hi SueBobby, Thanks for the note.

I have tried this trick, 2 different data bases even.... Bing and Google. Too many trees to see through. The remote areas do not get updated very often. The areas closer to large cities now I can sometimes count the site numbers the images are so clear. Yes, I too use this tool on every new campground we go to. I use it to zoom in on the parking lot and get the GPS coordinates right in the parking lot. Very handy.

Thanks

John

John,

We stayed at Lake Eaton last August on Site 55. The map you are looking at from Reserve America is NOT accurate the sites are all side-by-side. The sites are a nice size our site was right next to the playground, which has kids playing during the day but was quite at night. The main road through the camp is a tight two lane so making the transition from the road to the camp site is a little tight. You should not have any problems getting your TT into any of those sites. They are all RIGHT ON THE WATER! There was a large motor home in site 57 while we were there and they had no problem getting in or out. We kayak and had a great time. The hardest part we found about Lake Eaton was leaving to go home. We loved it!! This coming summer we are exploring and have our reservation in at Rollins Ponds. We are very much looking forward to that too.

Wow Gary perfect. What luck.... I knew SOC would come through... They have every year so far.

By any chance do you have pics to share of the camping sites in this area? Either post on line or email off line. PM me and can exchange emails if yon can.

You said 55 was next to a playground? Did I read that right? Trying to figure out were it is in relation to the sites.

I had a preconceived notice that I might want site 60 as the door side would have more room than the others. Maybe, maybe not.

Thanks for the note.

John

John,
Did you ever make it to Lake Eaton Camp ground? We are planning a trip in Mid August this year (2021) and are looking for campgrounds in the Long Lake area. Any input from your experience in the area would be appreciated.

Hi Brian,

Yes, we did make it. A few pics attached from DEC camp, Lake Eaton. Long Lake is just down the road into town and offers a laundry mat, grocery store, a few eating places, a marina and a public beach for Long Lake.

It was a great trip that year. Our kind of camping, you are "in the woods", lake at your site, nature at it's best. All boondocking, no power at the site. Seeing these pics right about now in the cold of winter, I wanna go back!

Our site looking from the waters edge up at the camper

Shore line at our site, site 81.

The beach area panoramic

Lake Eaton is a smaller Adirondack park. Very nice. Not sure what size camper you have, ours is one of the larger Sunline campers and I had to be selective which site I picked. We did fit in the site fine, once we got in it. Getting in was a challenge backing into. The hard turn off the road, long camper, long wheelbase truck, lots of big trees opposite the site and then the large rock on the right side of our site made it challenging. While it took a good while to get in, I drove right out... Will never forget that site.

On that trip, we also camped at Lewy Lake, also a DEC Adirondack park. Lewy Lake is about 36 miles south east of Lake Eaton. About an hour to hour and half tow through the winding, beautiful road of the Adirondacks.

On that trip, we were coming from more south in NY from my mom's place in the lower Hudson valley. So we stopped at Lewy Lake for 3 nights, then went over to Lake Eaton.

Hope this helps

John

In case you have not found this Adirondack picture web site, I highly recommend it. This website started a number of years ago by a camping couple who took pics of all the sites in the some of the ADK parks they go to. Then, they kept expanding it. This has helped me immensely over the years.

https://www.campadk.com/

And they now have a link to 92 NYS parks with their pictures

Thanks John,
Yes the link will be a great help. We have a 2004 T1950 Solaris (like your project camper) and have enjoyed it for 3 years now. Looking out the window here in PA we are also looking forward to spring/summer camping this year.

Your T1950 will fit in most all the sites, at many of the ADK parks. I say "most" as some are really only for a small popup or tent.

The entire Adirondack park system is one amazing place. Oddly enough, I grew up and lived in NYS for 31 years (lower Hudson valley in Macintosh apple country) before moving to Ohio. In all that time, I never camped in the ADK's. Now, we go back to NY to see family and camp in the ADK's as much as we can. Mid summer (early Aug) at my mom's place it could be 85F and swelter hot. The dog days of summer. Then drive 3 1/2 hours north to the ADK's and it was 72 F and beautiful weather. And down to 45F at night. Amazing what a lot of trees, water and mountains do for keeping things cool. Natures air conditioning!

Have fun this summer.
