Florida to Virginia

Hi everybody,
We are sitting here in Carrabelle, Fla. finally enjoying the sun. Come April 1, we will be heading over to the Crooked Creek State Park in St. Mary's, GA for a week. (West coast of Fla to East coast of GA).

We have to be in Hillsville, VA for about April 22 or thereabouts - so we have about 2 weeks to travel. Any suggestions about routes, campgrounds, etc. Much appreciated as usual.

Norm, if it is warm enough we plan on stopped in at the Myrtle Beach State Park as you suggested.

Thanks,
Alice

The other park south of Myrtle is Huntington Beach State Park. Check that out you may like it better. They both have good beaches but Huntington has the adjoining Brookgreen Gardens.

The weather has been the coldest in 9 years of RVing, almost amazing but that's why we have weathermen, weather is inconsistent and changes. Right now I wish Gore was right about Global Warming, unfortunately it's been cooling for a decade.

We're thinking we might shift the months we RV, how I don't know, maybe more spring and fall.

Safe travels,

Have you been to James Island County Park in Charleston, SC? Fabulous place and SO much to do around Charleston.

James Island is a cool place, particularly from Nov-Christmas when they have their Christmas Lights display. There rates for seniors are relatively high - upper 30's a night compared to SC state parks where most sites are in the mid 20s.

Charleston is one of our favorites as well. We normally stay a little south of the city in a passport park, under $20 I recall.

Another one we stopped at this year a little out of the way near Beaufort, SC is Hunting Beach State Park - $26 or less depending on the season. SC virtually owns the whole island. Beaufort is also an interesting community.

So many places to visit and so little time....

Ron and Alice,

In writing about SC parks for you I recognize that the cost of RV's when moving daily can be expensive and I thought you might like to know of some alternatives.

First there are 7 Escapee parks that welcome non – members, they are their rainbow parks. You can see these parks at the following web site.

http://www.escapees.com/Wannabes/Parking.asp

As well should you decide to join escapees someday, theirs an interesting list available to escapees called Day's End that lists these really inexpensive and sometimes free places to stay.

Information on that list can be seen at this site.

http://www.escapees.com/daysend/index.asp

This site may be interesting should you decide to be more on the move.

Typically Escapees only pay $14-15 dollars a day whether one day or a month in an Escapee park. Many Escapee parks also have monthly rates. With rates like $270 a month.

Also Escapees have a book with 1000 or so private campgrounds equivalent to Good Sams where you get mostly 15 to some 50% off.

If you decide not to be Florida Sationary, Escapee may be something you would be interested in.

If you get near Houston you might want to visit their headquarters park.

Safe Travels, as well I see there are some other Sunliners in Pensecola.

I wonder if the Sunline site could use "a where are you?" log.

Hoping for warm weather,

thanks everybody, I will check everything out. Norm - we plan on definitely joining Escapees once we get home. We figure there is no value in us joining now because we only have another 2 months to go. So first thing before we leave for next winter - it is top priority on our list. We have heard too many good things about it...

Alice, (sometimes Awesome, lol)
