Dixie New Year's must haves

Just finished smoking and slicing my Smithfield country ham for our New Year's camping trip. Add to this black-eyed peas, stewed tomatoes, collards and spoon bread. If'n you don't eat black-eyed peas on Jan. 1, bad luck will haunt you in the new year, yessireebob.
If anyone is interested in recipes for these Dixie delicacies, I'd be happy to oblige. (Of course I fear real hickory smoked, pepper cured Smithfield ham could be hard to find in upstate NooYawk. I had to bring one to my aunt in Buffalo every time I visited.)

Those of us who are of the Pennsylvania Dutch persuasion serve roast pork with sauerkraut for good luck on New Years. However, your smoked Smithfield ham sounds delicious. Maybe we could serve black-eyed peas as a side dish; never can get enough good luck.

Aww, man, you're killin' me. My wife doesn't like sauerkraut so I don't get to fix it much, but I'll have to admit to a strong fondness for fresh pork (as opposed to smoked or cured) cooked with saurkraut.

We had Corned beef and cabbage first. Then later we had some blackeyed peas cooked with ham for supper. We always have some type of cabbage on New years.

I'm guessing if a traditional new year's meal from any region that was the original colonies has any "greens" in it, they will be cabbage, collards or kale, maybe spinach. What else would've survived in the garden this long?
Some of the cabbage may have had to be preserved, a la sauerkraut.
We're still harvesting collards, spinach and kale from our garden. No extended, hard freeze yet.

I remember when I was a kid, my grandmother always bought what she called a "Daisy Ham", not real sure what part of the pig it was. It was always sealed in a dark red see thru wrapper (shaped like some of the hamburger that is packaged in the round log shape), and once opened grandmom sliced it up, put in a large pot with the cut up cabbage and just let it cook ALL day. I would love to make it again, but I have not been able to find that kind of ham. I have tried other cuts of ham, but the flavor just was not the same. Anyone know what kind of ham I am talking about ?
