Cooking over and in the fire

Even though our Sunline has all the amenities on reserve, we would rather rough it when possible and cook over or in the fire.

Hobo dinner is what I've heard it called. Put in cut up potato, carrots, corn, green beans, whatever other veggies you like. I like it loaded up with butter and cheese. Wrap it real good in tinfoil and put it in the fire coals for awhile to cook it.

Lots of times we also just wrap potatoes in foil and bake them in the fire coals for awhile till they're good and done. Then take them out and load them up with butter and cheese.

One way to cook over the fire if you don't have a grate is put a long piece of steel like your stabilizer wrench or awning wrench over the fire ring, then set the pan using that and one side of the fire ring. Try to keep the fire in that area for best results of course.

Can anything beat campfire charred baked potato's wrapped in foil and cooked in the coals for 40 minutes or so?
Except breakfast cooked over the fire with REAL bacon not the....bird variety. LOVE to toast the toast over the fire...Hmmm..smoked toast!

Campfire cooking has always been a favorite of ours! I think we actually eat better when we are camping because we enjoy cooking. Natures way of seasoning food just right with that smoke.

My favorite is a breakfast of Bacon and Eggs cooked over an open fire in the morning with a good cup of coffee. Can't beat it.

Making Brunswick stew is an eight-hour project, hence the redneck entertainment center.

Canoe camping, we usually had a fire for cooking. Here's a shot of me on the upper James River brewing coffee and cooking breakfast biscuits in my reflector oven.

I am working on design and eventually I want to put together a decent campfire cooking rig that packs fast......does not take up to much room...does not weigh 22k pounds.....AND works

Yes when we canoed in Quetico or White Otter provincial parks, the fire was the main heat source. Can't beat fresh fish, a little butter, wrap em in foil and wait. Yum...my!

I still go fishin' on the occasional getaway with some guys I have known for years down near Houma, La. One of my favorite things to do is take a couple of fresh caught fish and pull up on a bank out in the marsh and fry em' right there. Doesn't even taste like fish....just really good!
