Cicada

Think I'll try a little cicada stir fry tonight.
A treat you only enjoy every 17 years.

They haven't started up yet here in central PA but found two casings on the front porch yesterday. Let us know how that stir-fry works out, we may have to use it.

Yummy, but you need a toothpick to get the legs from between your teeth.
Tonight I'll try them deep fried in beer batter.

Nature and it's cycles...

When we use to live back in NYS and had our farm, these insets were a real challenge on crops. You had to spray (Sevin brand insecticide) to keep them out of the fruit trees or vineyards or they would kill them just about completely.

My uncle told me one time years ago, that one year it was so bad it looked like the entire corn field was moving as they crawled along the ground. Billions of them...

We have been in Ohio now for 25 years and we are somewhat due for another phase of them in our area. We are a little more south west from Jim. I do not remember the year of the last time, but the population of them out here was a drop in the bucket compared to upstate NY. And I hope it stays that way...

Are they in the flying stage yet Jim?

We just got home from Mohican. They are in flying stage there. Around where I live not much activity.
