Sampson State Park question

Tom's Air Force buddy and wife want to meet up for our annual (non-camping) get-together. Due to busy (retired!!) schedules we can only meet for a few days in late May. The guys really wanted to see the Air Force Museum at Sampson State Park. I now realize it will not be open yet. Is it worthwhile to go anyway and see the outside? Are we missing out on a lot by not being able to go in? I know some of you know the park really well.

We're staying in Waterloo. Any must-see things to do other than wine tours?

Hi Tom & Debbie,

I do volunteer work for the museum during the summer and fall and it is definitely worth visiting. The museum is both naval and air force from WWII and the Korean conflict. It is housed in the former brig, one of the few remaining buildings from the military training era. You can cal 315-585-6203 and ask Delores about their hours. There are several websites telling about the history of the area, do a search for Sampson State Park Military Museum. Hope this will help.

Mike (tell Delores that cabana boy recommended you, she'll get a chuckle from that)

Thanks Steve! We've been to the glass museum on a past trip, but never the Wings of Eagle. Love the area so that will be a fun drive.

Mike, thanks ! The museum is not officially open, but Delores said to come on over and see it anyway. Nice ! Will tour around the park as well. Any particular things we should see? We would love to camp there at some point.
