Post your vote: Best East Coast beach camping spot

I have talked with many people over the years who have camped on/near the beach in many different places on the East coast.

What has been your best experience?

Could you walk easily to the shore?

Are there any "natural" places left to camp, or are they all RV campgrounds urbanised and cramped chock full of Class A's?

Asseteague National Park

A great place, camping right behind the dunes, big sites, dry camping, wild horses, 40 miles of beach. Four wheelers may drive on the beach.

Avoid the summer, the spring and fall are great with no mosquitos.

As well as beach side camping there is bay side camping, kayakers heaven.

If you want services try the Mryland State Park next door, we haven't stayed there but it is also on the beach.

I agree with Norm.............Asseteague National Park is the best because the beach is not built up, it's more natural. Hint Hint......stay on the ocean side and not on the bay side. The ocean breeze helps keep mosquitos down to a minimum.

Henderson Beach State Park

If your vistas stretch to Florida.

Florida has a wonderful State Park system, as well there are a number of marvelous county parks like Fort Desoto, located on an island near St. Pete. They have the whole island and their beaches are consistently top rated.

Our favorit Florida Park is in Destin Florida, Henderson Beach State Park. Though this is in a congested area, they have a mile of beach, only 60 sites all with water and electricity and some of the nicest sand you'll ever see. Sites are just behind the dunes and are surrounded by vegetation, very private.

First Landing State Park, Virginia Beach, Virginia

This state park is our favorite place. So much so we are Camp Hosts each July. The sites are very private in a natural setting. The bath houses are new and kept very clean. There are no street lights and night time is actually dark. There are several dune cross overs with a very nice beach on the bay. We prefer the bay to the ocean as it is warmer and you don't have to fight the waves to enjoy a swim. Jellyfish can be a problem later in the summer, but careful swimming can prevent an interaction. There is a bike trail over to the oceanfront through the state park. One can enjoy the boardwalk at night and return to the quiet peaceful state park. The bike trail also goes over to a Marina area that has many great restaurants. In the midst of all the touristy areas of Va Beach, First Landing State Park is an oasis. If you haven't been to First Landing (previously known as Seashore State Park), it's worth a trip!

Great! We will be Camp Hosts at B37. July usually is a good hot weather month! You will love the Park and the people. We have a very hard time leaving after 2.5 months. Be sure to look us up!
