CT All State Parks.....Bad Economy

Not a lot of CT folks on here but thought I would pass this along. As of October 1st this year all park fees in CT including parking and camping have doubled. Pretty significant. This was instead of closing them so it is a trade off.
This means that camping with resident discount went from $15/night to $30 and if you make a reservation ($9, thank you Reserve America) that makes a one nighter $39. Not the deal it had been.
We were going to try one more night before packing up this year and now looking at the full hookup campground 3 miles from the State park which is $40 a night. MOre attractive now only $1 more and thinking we might need the heat on all night.
Just an unfortuanate reality these days.

I was a CT resident for most of my life. Just unbelievable. CT is one of the country's most heavily taxed states. They always find it wasy to tax small groups like RVers.

Thanks for NH. Some of our fees for parks are high but we're not buried in taxes, no sales tax, no income tax.

It looks like New York State campgrounds are becoming a bargain at around $22/night for 2010. Even adding the reserveamerica.com of $9 per reservation, it's looking better and better.

Like other states, NY is facing a large budget deficit and there will be lots of changes ahead. But we have not seen any indication that camping fees will rise appreciably. What does concern us is the possibility that the NYS campgrounds may loose staffing even though some of them are very profitable.

We spend at least 30 days a year at one of the more popular state campgrounds up in the Adirondacks. We saw no evidence of any cutbacks in staff during June through August this past summer.

I do expect that some of the lesser-used parks will have cutbacks in many areas. They tried to close or reduce operating periods for several in the Adirondacks last summer. In the end, about half of them re-opened for peak season although with reduced services. Several parks that stayed open through Columbus Day were either closed early or operated with one or more camping loops closed after Labor Day.

But for the moment, New York State campgrounds seem to be OK.

Another Issue

When public campgrounds raise their rates, this permits private campgrounds to more easily incfrease their rates, a cascading effect.

Speaking of Connecticutt, our son goes to Quinnipiac, so next weekend we'll watch his cross-country race and then head to Old Mystic for a few days where we're staying at the Seaport RV campground for $19 a night!!!! It's a special they run in the fall and spring......hopefully it won't snow. I think we camp for more than the price don't we??? You know you can always get a cheaper motel where you don't have to deal with the neighbors and build your own fire.... My gripe with CT public campgrounds is their no pet policy, so we would never stay there anyway.
