We just finished a 4-day stay at this campground just outside Cherokee, North Carolina. It's an older campground without some of the amenities... no WiFi, no pool, no planned activities. Just a pleasant quiet campground.
This campground does not accept checks or credit cards. CASH ONLY.
They did accept our personal check for our deposit, sent thru the mail.
Location: Big Cove Road (just outside Cherokee), inside the Cherokee Reservation and next to the Smoky Mountain National Park.
PO Box 471
Cherokee, NC 28719
Phone: 828-497-3540
Campground is open late March thru the end of October.
Facilities: They have paved (concrete) sites for big rigs as well as smaller grass/dirt sites for smaller campers & tents. The front section (with the concrete pads & 50 amp service) has NO SHADE. The back section (where we stayed) has mostly shaded sites. All RV sites have sewer connections. Most sites have cable TV connections.
The sites in the back section are a bit close for larger rigs.
Our site was long enough for our 26-foot coach, but I had to angle it a bit to get a reasonable escape/entry route for the truck. You'll need to make friends with your neighbors when un-hooking or hooking up.
Bathhouse is older but well kept.
Laundry house is in good shape with plenty of machines.
Water quality is good.
We had no electrical issues while there. (30-amp)
NOTE: They are in the process of updating the electrical and cable system thru-out the campground.
The staff was helpful and friendly.
Other Information: There is a nice-sized stream running the entire length of the campgound, where you can fish. Catch & Release Only (it is within the tribal boundaries of the Cherokee Indian Reservation).
You can hear that stream EVERYWHERE in the campground.
There is a small gameroom there, but not much in it.
There is a small store and gas station adjacent to the campground.
For groceries, there is a Food Lion on the other side of Cherokee.
Overall Rating: I'd rate this campground a solid 4 out of 5, only because of the lack of WiFi, the limited cell phone service (we had enough bars to make calls, but it was spotty) and the layout of the sites in the back section.
This being said, we will like make this our campground of choice when camping in Cherokee.
