Hey Ruskey,
Funny I was just talking with one of My Employees about Blydenburgh being closed due to mosquito's with West Nile. the county also closed Indian Island park for the same reason. unfourtunatly Blydenburgh is the closest You will get to Smithtown as far as camping goes, You can check into several county parks but they are further east on the Island, Such as South Haven park, (no amenities at all except water, Self Contained only) or even try Wildwood state park out in wading river. South Haven is about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes drive from Smithtown depending on the traffic especially if You drive on rte 25 due to a ton of construction. Wildwood is about an hour with traffic from Smithtown. You have to also remember Long Island Traffic is the worst especially with the City-its traveling all over for their special weekend drives. also there is really nothing to trustworthy west of Smithtown. one of the things You might do is monitor the weather here on long island and see if they lift the camping ban at Blydenburgh. also FYI; all suffolk county parks are usually completely booked during the summer months and are extremely hard to get spots at.
