NY Black Bear Campground- Yikes!!

My wife and I took out Sunline to Florida, NY, over the weekend and Wow is all I can say. The weather could not have been better (hot) and the CG could not have been....wierder. Besides a few "full timers" living in old trailers that have not moved since Ronald Reagan was pres. there was two other campers there on friday when we arrived. By Sat. morning, they had pulled up tent satkes and left leaving just us. What is up with this place? BTW, Woodalls gives it 4 w's. We still had a great time, my wife can make us have a great time if we camped in our own backyard,(which we have)--maybe we are weird.

Sounds more like a trailer park than a campsite, you simply didn't drive far enough north. Another two hours to the Adirondacks and you'll find a whole different camping experience.

Sure can. Try Thompson's lake near Berne, NY. Beautiful, State site, no facilities, 2.5 hours from NJ border. Then up Rt 30 North of Amsterdam, NY from the Thruway, Sacandaga in Wells, NY, or Mofitts Beach (huge sandy beach) near Speculator, NY both state state sites with no facilities maybe 4 hours from NJ boarder. State sites are about $18/night. For state sites see Reserve America. Then there's several full service sites near Lake George plus (and a couple of state sites without facilities.) North on rt 87 Northway See Woodall's for listing, all good, beautiful area but touristy. Maybe 3.5-4 hours from NJ border.

These are the closest to you other than some nice places south of me in the Catskill Mts which I know little about. I'm sure there are some very nice places there straight up the Thruway or up rt 17, 2 hours from the border.

Have fun
