Any free overnight parking along I-95 in Southern Maine????

We're heading to Acadia National Park next week for a week, but want to do the trip in two days out and back (getting too old for marathon driving!), so are looking for a place to sleep safely overnight. Are there really Walmarts, etc. where couples can park for a few hours of shut-eye? All the campgrounds have minimums or don't allow pets this time of year. Cabela's in Scarborough apparently doesn't allow because of ordinances. Kittery I-95 rest stop, no overnight parking, although we might risk it.... Kittery Trading Post may be a possibility. Walmarts all over but feel weird!! Any thoughts or advice on this stuff would be appreciated. We're thinking between Kittery and/or Wells would be halfway.

Free Campgrounds for RVs

This may help. As well there are always people parked at the Walmarts in Seabrook, NH, not too far from Kittery.

As well I have overnite parked behind the Walmart on Route 1 in Portsmouth, NH, not far off the highway.

Safe Travels,

WOW, Portsmouth & Seabrook, NH. I sure don't hear those names very often.

I have family there and I guess I "need" to find time to head up that way.
Grandmother lived in Newburyport, MA and we could sit on her porch and see Plum Island.

Perhaps this might be a suitable free stop over...L.L. Beans in Freeport, Me has designated RV parking and since this store is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week, RV'ers have been know to stay the night under the cover of being shoppers who are apparently in the store....plenty have done this without issue. During the daytime there are parking attendants to guide you into the parking slots, but last I knew no one is there from evening on so your on your own. Worth a look maybe.

The web site I included in the earlier post lists LL Bean as a free camp site in Maine.

Free Campgrounds for RVs

It also lists an interesting free one in Wiscassett (sp).

Newburyport and Portsmouth are virtual twins, both charming cities with loads of resturants and music.
