Duncan's Family Campground - Lothian, MD

Duncan's Family Campground - Near Washington DC and Annapolis

Dates of stay Aug 31 - Sept 3, 2012.
Rate: $50.50 a night with the Good Sam discount

The campground layout was nice with mostly shaded, full-hookup pull-thru sites. Most sites were level with either grass or sandy soil (which was a problem getting tracked in the trailer after it rained). They had lots of organized activites for both kids and adults (bingo, crafts, pool games, etc.) over the weekend. There was a band on Saturday night and karaoke on Sunday night. They also have a nice nature trail and a fully enclosed dog park. The large staff was very friendly and active. We saw them picking up trash around the park and cleaning the bathhouse 2 times a day.

Negatives: The park Wi-Fi is pretty much worthless. My laptop and Kindle could see it but wouldn't connect from our site. I was able to get our Kindle to connect while standing by the office but the data rate was like using dial-up. At first, the cable TV didn't work on our site but it worked for our friends who were camping on the other 5 sites in our row. After a heavy rain Saturday night, it stopped working for everyone. We were so close to DC that we could get almost 50 channels on the roof antenna so I didn't bother complaining. There are LOTS of permanants in the park... with the economy, cost of living in MD and their proximity to DC I think a lot of people have decided to make it home.

Overall, it was a nice campground and we plan to go back (it's only an hour drive from our home). They are a great base camp if you want to explore the Washington DC, Annapolis or Southern MD areas. I'd give it a 6.5 on a scale of 1-10.
