Anyone stay at Chipokes Plantation Campground in Va? If so,how did U like it? Did you take the ferry to Jamestown/Williamsburg? How was that?

WOW that looks awesome! I wish the sites had sewar, family of 4 with no sewar is tough . .. especially since we are looking to be in VA for a week this June (yeah I've got to get a move on some reservations!)

We are tenatively planning to go the Williamsburg KOA - but I am definitely open to other options in the area.

We haven't been there, but when we were at Claytor Lake State Park one year we were having wine by the fire with the campground hosts who are full timers. They were telling us about all the campgrounds that they like hosting at, and mentioned Chipokes as their favorite. They did mention the ferry as a nice way to get over to Williamsburg. Good luck and please post how you like it. We're thinking about a visit there this Thanksgiving.

Our state parks don't have full hook ups but the bath houses are well maintained. Chippokes (with two "Ts") has a bath house in each loop.

I prefer A loop as it is more shaded. The sites aren't as level as B loop, which is newer. I was in my pop up so I went with shade.

The camp is quiet since the aquatic amenities are closer to the James River. Busch Gardens, Water Country USA, Williamsbug/Jamestown/Yorktown are all right across the river via ferry. There is more US history within an hour of this park than anywhere else I can think of. (This includes the Farm and Forestry Museum in the park.)
You can stay on the south side of the James and drive to the Virginia Beach oceanfront in about 45 min. Go west and you're in Richmond. This place is Mecca for Civil War buffs.
If you plan to spend a week in Tidewater Virginia, this is a great park to make as home base.

Y'll come now, ya heah?

We highly recommend American Heritage RV Park in the Williamsburg Area. Here's a link to our review:
