Western Ohio overnight stop

We are looking for a place to stay overnight on route 70 between Columbus and Dayton. We are traveling to St. Louis from Slippery Rock, PA on March 18th and just need a pit stop for the night. I'm hitting a dead end. Any help would be appreciated!

Is Route 70 the Ohio Turnpike? If so here is a link.

thanks

Thanks! It looks like we probably will stay at a Walmart in London, Ohio, right outside of Columbus. The rest stops are second on our list. Happy Trails!

See if this helps any.

http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/parks/del...9/Default.aspx

And a state map showing it http://www.dnr.state.oh.us/facilitie...7/Default.aspx

It is Delaware State Park. Open all year round. We camp there often in the winter. They have fresh water on and a dump station open. They also have heated showers/bath rooms. 30 and 50 amp power on all year round at the camp site. A very nice park.

In the winter you do not need a reservation, it is site general. And in mid March you will not have a problem getting a site.

It is up off Rt 23 that you can connect to from I 270 the bypass around Columbus. It will be about 30 minutes north on Rt 23 from the I270 bypass. I 70 connects right to I270 as you approach Columbus. And I 270 will put you back on I 70 on the west end of town. I70 goes right thru Columbus with I 270 doing a loop around it.

This might be more north then you wanted to go, but it beats a Walmart.

Here is a pic of Delaware PS with us Camping in January. You can see the heated shower house in the back ground.

If you want to use this option, I can provide help on any directions etc to it. We only live 20 miles away.

Hope this helps and safe travels.

John

State Park

Thank-you for the info on Delaware State Park. We looked at that first because we prefer to stay in state parks. I tried to look online for availability of sites and didn't have much luck. I planned to call the State Park, but haven't gotten to it yet. It appears the park is not too far north of Columbus. One of our stops is going to be Whole Foods and it doesn't look all that far from there either? I have multiple food/digestive issues/allergies and Whole Foods has a great selection of specialty foods, especially baked goodies.
If we were to stay at the Walmart it would be our first time. We have stayed in a Rest Stop in Ohio, once, not by choice and it was ok, but sleeping was not the greatest. Thanks again!

In the off season, Delaware is what they call “Site General” as opposed to “Site Specific” that uses the reservation system. During the off season months they only have 1 loop open. The other 3 areas are closed I think until mid Apri ish time frame

During Site General times, it is first come first serve on the sites and you drive around and pick your spot. Then you unhitch and go up to the closed for the season camp store (you pass right thru it on the way in) and get a self reservations envelope. Fill out the card, put the money in and drop in the slot in the side of the building next to the Ice machines.

There are at least 50 sites in the loop that is open. You should not have any problems finding a site in March. You may be the only one in the park…..or have 1 or 2 other campers there. And heck one might be us…. So if you see anything Sunline that looks like ours, come on over.

These campsites here are all from Delaware in the same area that is open in the winter to give you an idea of how they are like. I happen to have them allready loaded up on the web. We use other areas of the park during the open season.

Hope this helps

John

Ohio Stop

Sure looks better than a Walmart parking lot!!!!! Thank-you so very much for the detailed information on a site. May-be we'll see you on the way to St. Louis or on the way back! We can't wait to unwrap our camper and get moving!!!!!!!!!!!!!
