new door

I have a 1985, 20 ft. trailer. Looking for the outer door, screen works fine, unless they come as a uint.
thanks, jim

Jim, they do come as a unit generally. I see you are in Redford; this is one I've seen that's parting one out somewhat locally. The door should fit, if he still has it, and then you wouldn't have to get a whole door unit. It may (more than likely will be) rotted along the bottom, but assuming the skins and aluminum frame parts are all there, you can rebuild it. Even if the skins aren't good, you can buy new skin material at Home Depot and put a new one of those on.

3 campers for parts

If this source doesn't have one, I'd recommend somewhere like Bontrager's RV Surplus in White Pigeon, MI. It's a little bit of a drive, but you will probably save more by driving than paying for one at full retail at a dealer and then getting it shipped. Call down there first and see if they have what you need. Get full dimensions of the door frame first. You also will need a square top corner door vs. the newer style radius corner.

If you have the whole outer aluminum frame from your main door, then you certainly can make a new one and that's probably the best bet. Sometimes people lose the entire door and are just left with the screen door and outer door frame. I don't know how that happens, but you'd have to buy a door for those parts in that situation.

I rebuilt the exterior door of my '87 T-1661. Once you remove the outer door frame, the interior frame is made up of I think 1x2's and the styrofoam instulation. I was able to re-use the interior & exterior skin to my door. Was not a long or hard job.

Both are right
I fixed door, reused skin, scrap 2x4's for framing. Wish all my projects went this well.
Off to Alconca State Park next thursday.

I find playing is better than working.

Excellent! Glad to hear it all worked out for you. If I were you, run a small bead of silicone along the bottom edge of the aluminum frame, because the reason it rotted is water seeped in between the bubbled plastic there.
