Martin Camper Sales -- Sunline Spare Tire Cover

I need a Sunline spare tire cover and they have some in the 15" size at Martin Camper Sales in Mechanicsburg, PA for $18 each. I live in Mississippi and the guy that answered the phone said they don't have the capability to mail one to me. Strange, but true. Does anyone live nearby who could pick one up for me? I'd be more than happy to pay extra for your gas, time and inconvenience. I can pay in advance with Paypal.

Thanks,

Patricia

Patricia.....Martin Camper Sales does not have a good reputation amongst us here on this site....from what I've read they don't accept checks, credit cards or ship any mdse.....nice way to do business!!!

Are you sure this is a SUNLINE cover???? a plain white tire cover costs about that much....

OH congrats on your winning bid on the Sunline....

I don't know how somebody stays in business with all those restrictions in this day and time. Here's the link showing the tire cover:

I too am amazed that they can stay in business. He certainly has his way of doing business and that's all he will do. This is the reason why he still has the inventory he has, because he is so hard to deal with.

He has never been a big dealer, he carried Sunline for many years and while it may not have been his only line, it was the major one. Now he's had to substitute with other stuff to fill in his business.

Though I've never been there, it seems that he is in the business of doing local repairs more than anything. People bring trailers in and he fixes them, most likely on a cash basis. I'm guessing he does take checks, he might even take credit cards, but I'm guessing he just doesn't want to take them from unknown outsiders.

Patricia -

I'm about 2 hours from there, but if I head in that direction, and no one else has gotten there first, I would be happy to do it.

That's interesting that he won't ship. He quotes shipped prices in his ad:

Approx. UPS charges in Pa. for fender skirts.
Boxing, packaging, shipping, and insurance. $80.00

Approx. charges for mailing Tire covers is $7.00

Maybe he only ships in PA.

From what I'm hearing, I'm surprised he's still in business. Is he the only dealer around? Cash only? Is he not reporting sales/paying taxes? I think I'd steer clear of him.

Congratulations on your "new" Sunline and welcome back to SOC.

Martins Camper Sales

I know that Martins has a bad reputation with this Sunline Forum but I have to say that last year I called them from Missouri and asked about the Tire Cover and they said that they would take a check and mail me one. I sent them a check and they mailed me the tire cover and it looks great on our T 1950. I told a friend about them and he ordered one also and he received his also. We were both happy with the service.
Go figure.

That's encouraging. I think I'll give them another call today and beg.

That's very kind of you to offer, but that's just too far for you to have to drive. Thanks for trying to help.

Patricia.......

I think you'll find that Martin's policies have changed over the past few years. It wasn't that they weren't cooperative..... they were just very conservative.

They still don't accept credit cards....but do accept checks. They've explained that it's one way to keep costs down so they can offer good prices on their RVs.

Having bought 3 RVs from them over the years, I do find them good to deal with.... and great on RV servicing (they do most of the work on our current HiLo).

Hope this helps.

41 minute drive for me... but WHEN they are open might be a factor (Says NOTHING about that on the website, which I note is almost useless)

If they keep evening hours it would work, but I am far away on every Saturday and Sunday...

That's how I bought one from him a year ago. Some one picked one up and sent it to me. I even offered him additional to drop it off at a post office. I can't imagine he had many a year ago and am not surprised he still has some.

Martins Camper Sales

I live about 45 minutes from Martins Camper Sales.
My parents bought a camper from them about 20 years ago and they did well for them. My current 1997 2670 was ordered from there (not by me...a previous owner)...

In an unrelated matter, I happen to call them today for a part, and the man on the phone was very rude to me. I found the part I needed in a local plumbing store. I lost all respect for the business today.

I have been there before and he does have a storage lot with MANY Sunlines with "For Sale" on them...if anyone is interested in a coach.

I called them back today and talked to the same man I talked to yesterday. He pretty much told me that he just didn't want to fool with mailing the spare tire cover to me and that was the end of the conversation. I don't think I've ever run into this situation before and it is very frustrating.
