Hello, I'm interested in this trailer. According to NADA guides, 1983 had a T1550 and 1982 had a M 15 1/2. Is that correct? Anybody feel free to jump in and let me know otherwise. I expect they are very similar and in either case they are under 1800 lbs so from all the research I've done should be towable by my Subaru Outback.
I could come out on Saturday to take a look at it.

Yes, T-1550 and 15 1/2' SB are basically the same thing. The M is just a designation NADA puts on, it wasn't part of the model number. Sunline changed the numbering system in 1983 when they expanded the floorplan offerings, so that's why these two are the same model. I believe the older 15' SC was almost the same, just the couch and dinette were reversed.
I would re-check on that weight- that seems too light. Make sure you are looking at the GVWR and not the UVW. UVW has no water/propane, no food, no supplies, literally nothing in it, and usually won't include an air conditioner since those weren't factory options back then (but many have since added). GVWR is the max the trailer can be, total trailer weight plus the stuff you put in it, and you need to plan a tow vehicle accordingly to that weight.

Thank you for the clarification, Sunline Fan.
NADA lists the "Axle Weight" so that's the UVW/dry weight, correct? 1982 Sunline Price, 1982 Sunline Values & 1982 Sunline Specs | NADAguides
I don't plan to do to much traveling with my trailer at this point. I'll be parking it on family property to live in for 6 months and then maybe next year stay at a local seasonal park. So if I envision towing with basically just the trailer then I'll be towing the UVW plus just the gas tanks and maybe an awning and maybe AC, right? I don't plan on using water tanks yet. Does that seem reasonable?

It looks like it. I just downloaded the 1982 brochure (I'm at work), and the published UVW there is 1765 (axle plus hitch weight). The GAWR, axle rating instead of total vehicle, is 2630. They termed the weights a little differently back then, but the 2630 is a good number to use for a trailer of this size.
Then, as a good rule of thumb, you should plan your tow vehicle to use 75% of its towing capacity. So for a 2630# trailer, divided by .75, is 3506. So you should be looking at a vehicle capable of towing 3500 lbs for this trailer. The reasoning for this is, a) you aren't pushing the limits of your vehicle where something can break, and b) the added frontal area of a travel trailer will fight wind, and you want a vehicle stable enough to handle it. 2500 lbs of travel trailer will be much more difficult to tow than say 2500 lbs of boat or 2500 lbs on a short open trailer, because of aerodynamics. It's important to note too that your towing capacity is a number derived from the weight and weight capacity of the vehicle. So anything you add to the inside of the vehicle will decrease from that capacity. Not as much of a concern for you as it is someone with a Suburban, but it's still something to consider when looking at utilizing all of your towing capacity.
The reverse would apply to your vehicle. I'm not sure on the exact specs of your car, but it looks like towing capacity would range from 2700-3000 lbs with trailer brakes, which this Sunline should have. 2700*.75=2025 lbs. The trailer brake controller is something you'll have to arrange to have installed in your Subaru, because the car won't be able to stop this much extra weight. I read the towing capacity for your car for a trailer without brakes is only 1000 lbs, for this reason.
So in summary, will it work? Probably, just not well. Never plan to tow at UVW...literally anything you add to the trailer from that initial weigh will add to it. A camp chair, a sewer hose, a water hose, wet wood from an undiscovered water leak, rug on the floor, etc. All of that adds up and adds up quickly, to more than you realize.

Wow, thank you again, Sunline Fan! I've read in a lot of forums about towing and hitch weights but it's still settling into making sense to me. Your description and calculations were very clear and I appreciate that! And thank you for looking into my car specs. I should have posted those more clearly.
Yes, my car is rated at 2700 lbs and a max of 200 on the tongue weight. Guess I'll be looking for a slightly smaller range of trailers than I thought... but that's fine! I'm excited to test my downsizing limits and I'll be happy as long as I have my own space
I just learned of the brochures available here (they aren't so obviously when on the site on a smartphone) so I'll be sure to check those out as I'm looking around for trailers.

No problem! Finding a full size trailer (not a pop up) smaller than 15' will be that much more difficult, but they are out there. The 1550 was a very popular model, so you'll find a lot of them. And tbh, if you are just moving it one or two times and a short distance, your car can probably handle a 1550 empty...or go rent a vehicle that can pull it.

I pulled my 1550 (empty) about an hour and a half home with my little Ford Escape when I bought it. It did pretty well on flat roads.

Yes, find a friend to help! While it was a popular model, and for good reason, you don't see many for sale any more.
