1979 Sunline Sunspot for sale, NY

Life throws you curves, and you learn to swerve. My most recent swerve is a cancer recurrence, pretty serious, which will keep me from camping much this summer if at all. I don't want to do it, but I know that the smart thing to do in my life at this point is to sell my 1979 Sunspot so that someone else can enjoy her.

The unit is in primitive camp-ready condition as is. The 12v system isn't functional (I was always planning to rewire it.) Meanwhile, I used a 400w power station/battery charger to power my cell phone, inflate airbeds, etc., and puck lights for interior lighting at night. It has two new tires with less than 1000 miles on them, put on in 2008. Bearings were repacked at that time. There are more pics in my album at Teardrops and Tiny Travel Trailers, but here is a basic side shot of the door side:

The unit weighs approx. 600 pounds. It's 5ft. wide by about 10ft long, including the tongue. It's 54 inches tall inside, which means that short people like me can sort of stand up inside. I have a camp cot that is a couch during the day and bed at night, and it goes with the trailer. Some of my other camping stuff can also come with the trailer. It's due for caulking of the vent, the door needs to be rebuilt due to some dry rot on the bottom, and windows/doors could use sealing all around. It has one side door and three functioning old-style but relatively new louver windows, as well as a sliding frosted glass/screen window in the door.

No galley - I used a moveable chuck box and cook on picnic tables. In place of the original galley, water tank, stove and fridge it has a single flat shelf. It doesn't have the Sunspot's original diner-style booths and table that fold down into a bed; the owner prior to me gutted the interior and refitted it with birch plywood walls, updated the windows, and put in the single flat shelf in the back.

This vintage trailer tows nice behind my Jeep Patriot and towed great behind my Chevy S10 before that. The price is $1000 firm.

I'm near Syracuse, NY. The trailer is kept garaged, and I can show it by appointment, but can't deliver or drive it to anyone at this time. If sold, I can get it registered so that the buyer can tow it. I have a transferrable title as a home-built, although I also have the original serial number from the tongue if anyone wants to try to register it as an original Sunspot. If interested, PM or drop me an email.

Wow, that thing is neat. At 600lbs I think I could tow it with my Mini. I couldn't even imagine the looks lol.

Anyhow, even though it is not original, any chance of a couple inside pictures?

I uploaded some pics to my album (love the new album feature!)
There are some shots of the condition it was in the day I picked it up, as well as some shots after I cleaned her up and replaced the 70s curtains and added my cot/couch.

Al has made an offer, so pending receipt of his deposit, it's sold. Thanks so much for looking.

That is good you have a buyer and one less thing to worry about. Prayers and best wishes for your other problems as well.

Gaelen,
I am sorry to hear of your reocurrance and wish you luck in selling your treasure. I have three Sunspots now so I will let someone else have this one

I do want to make you a promise. When you get well enough to camp again and you want to camp in a Sunspot, I will pull one of mine for you to use. All you have to do is let me know when and where.

Gaelen, take care of yourself and remember you have many friends on this forum!!

Everyone, thank you so much for your good thoughts.
I'm meeting Al later this morning to transfer the Sunspot to its new camping home.
Marshall & Sue - I may hold you to that offer. I promised myself a teardrop or tiny travel trailer if I survived my first bout with this cancer - and that's when I bought the Sunspot. If I make it through this chapter, you'd better believe I'll be ready to go camping again!
Meanwhile, I want someone else to enjoy my little trailer as much as I've enjoyed her for the last three years.

Still Available

Unfortunately, my father and daughter project did not develop as father envisioned. So, one of you may still get a chance to own a Sunspot. Pat (Gaelen) is a great lady: She will give you a thorough tour of the trailer from top to bottom. Good luck to whoever gets to own this piece of Sunline history.

the Sunspot is "under contract" as they say in real estate - I've agreed to a deposit with the balance paid by the end of May.

We are now the proud owner's of Gaelen's Sunspot. I towed it to it's new home last Saturday and have started working on it. Thank you Pat!
