Hi Jan,
Even though only 1008 were made, value all depends. Shortly after the company closed, someone put a few up on eBay within weeks of each other and the prices they sold for were crazy. I think one went for $80 or $90, maybe more. But, I don't think they'll ever get that again. I bought a spare one last year for $10. I figured I'd like to keep mine nice and I'd be more inclined to display another.
Just curious, what number is it? I wouldn't mind having a low number one, but I can't say it's really worth more.
Also, does it have the original box & styrofoam? What about the plastic wrapping? That will help the value. The $10 one I bought did have all of that too.
Also, does the music box part work? I did a complete rebuild on that one I bought because it didn't. If it doesn't, that's a good sign that it has been leaking water, which mine had. Lost about 1/3 or 1/2 of it. Basically the water just sits on a rubber plug which as the scene attached. They siliconed around the rubber plug when they put it in, but it does give way over time, especially if it ever froze. I now store both of mine upside down (but in the box) to prevent this. I was luckily able to rebuild/clean the music box part, but it was yucky.
You have a great story behind this and I'm glad you're trying to find it a good home. Even though 1008 were made, many of them went to dealers as gifts and they've been broken/thrown out/forgotten about, etc. I got my original one as a gift from Sunline too, and it's a very special treasure. Aside from shirts/hats/brochures, it was my first Sunline 'artifact'.
