Adjustable drop down hitch w/torsion bar cradle

Hi Folks...Just purchased a beautiful 2007 Sunline T-2075 22'..Can't believe how low these sit. Looking to buy a lower hitch to give me more stability..Any used ones out there you're not using? Need one that accommodates the torsion bars...Thanks..Live in Central Pa near Altoona...Call @ 814-793-4255...

Hi Casey1,

Congrats on your new Sunny and welcome to the club!

Trying to help you on your hitch. Are you looking for an entire weight distribution hitch or just the actual "drop shank" part to go on a hitch you have now to lower an the tow ball down to the level out the camper? And do you know how much drop length on the shank you need? Different tow vehicles and camper combo's can use different lengths.

I know some of the towing lingo may be new to you, we are here to help explain as needed. So if we are using new words you do not know, feel free to ask away.

As to where to get some good deals on weight distribution (WD) hitches and or parts, your local Craig's list can sometimes have some used hitches from time to time. Many folks always seem to be selling WD hitches or parts as they bought a new camper and the older one does not fit etc. The key though is, to know what your looking for to not buy the wrong one, one with missing parts or one too large for your camper. If you need help on sorting this out, posting pictures or links help us see what you are wanting and if it is complete or the right size for you Sunline.

And something to compare is the cost of a new WD hitch sized right for your application verses the used. Sometimes new can be not a lit different then used. It all depends.

I looked up your 2007 T-2075 and it has an empty (dry) tongue weight of 570#. Fully loaded the I would expect the camper could have a 700 to 800# loaded tongue weight. A WD hitch with spring bars rated in the 750 to 800# would be a good size. Caution to not get a WD hitch with WD bars ratings a lot higher then that as it can create a harsh ride and in some cases damage the camper A frame.

Hope this helps

John

Try these people.
huskytow.com
We purchased a 800-1200 lb distribution hitch from a local dealer and it came with the wrong shank. They were very helpful and sent us a replacement part no charge.
We have a T2753 trailer, and were able to get it level when using our 2006 GMC Sierra. However when we replaced the truck with a 2018 F150, the trailer hitch was 4 inches higher, and the shank was not long enough, so we found one with about 6 inches more drop at the local trailer dealer.

The suspension travel with the F150 was enough that the hitch sometimes scraped the road, so we ended up compromising by raising the hitch one set of holes, and cutting 2 inches off the bottom of the shank.

Hi Casey1,

If you are looking for a new weight distribution hitch, we can help suggest some that will fit with that camper. You can buy and install yourself, or look for a dealer of that brand, buy from them and have them install.

One thing about the wording, you say a hitch with a "torsion bar" hook up and you mentioned "cradle". The word torsion is not common. And cradle, you might be thinking of the 'hitch head". Explain some about what you are wanting and why so we can help better.

There are 2 basic styles and then some more elaborate ones.

This type they call it a "round bar" weight distributing hitch. The spring bars are round and are formed like a large L where the spring bars push up from the bottom or sometimes top down into the hitch head.

This type they call it a "trunnion bar" weight distributing hitch. The spring bars are square and have a set of pivoting lugs (trunnions) on the ends of the spring bar that fits into the side of the hitch head.

This particular trunnion bar hitch has a dual cam added feature with it used for anti sway controls.

And this trunnion bar hitch with a friction anti sway bar.

Which one are you looking for?

Hope this helps

John
