Hi, I joined awhile back and figured after our fourth camping trip I would chime in and tell everyone about our new to us 1990 t1550. Purchased it on July 4th, from a fairly local guy who really didn't want to part with it but needed some cash. Towed it home with some really dry rotted tires, but told the Bride not to worry, I got this!

So after some new tires and removing the worst of the vinyl, making some new storage door inserts, replacing all the marker lights and repairing the running lights, resealing the roof, painting most of the frame, repairing two plumbing leaks, cleaned all the curtains and installed the hardware for them, and a few other oddball things, we are having a great time with it. This winters project will be a new hot water install, need to fix the floor underneath it, looks like it had leaked for awhile. Also going to recover the floor while I'm at it. Its just the right size for the two of us. I have more pictures I can post now that I figured out how to use windows 10 a little more! Happy Camping...

Congratulations and enjoy! Looks nice.

I know the wife and I are enjoying our new to use '96 T-1700. Only wish we had the bunks, like yours, for the grandkids.

Thanks for the kind words!! Thanks for jogging my thoughts. I was wondering how one would get UP into those bunks??? Running start? They are cool. Maybe some type of ladder???????

Most TT's that have bunks like that came with a ladder of some kind. You'll probably have to hunt around and find something that works safely. Have you dropped the bunk door to see if there is a ladder in there somewhere? Maybe under a mattress or stuffed into a floor compartment somewhere?

Hi, yea, I have been through every nook and cranny in that thing.... nothing that resembles a climbing device...We will come up with something though...

My T1700 had a bunk bed it's now a storage area with the center section removed. They were only rated 100# and I think that's pushing it. No ladder to be found in mine either. Where abouts in Maine are you I'm near Fryeburg.

It looks great! Where is the water heater leaking from? I thought my fresh water tank was leaking but it ended up being the corner of the roof leaking at a few of the screws holding the trim on. What kind of flooring are you going to put in?

Thanks!! The previous owner kinda sorta ( in his own words) replaced the original with what looks like a used one. Kinda sorta tried hooking up but to no avail.... so we just bypassed it for now. It will be bye-bye this winter and a new one goes in correctly. As for the floor, I'm sure we will have a few discussions about it... the Bride wants some type of vinyl.....It will be fun...

Really? there isn't much too them to put in and hook up. Two of the older campers I had, I just had to replace the thermocouple and the small burn tube. I guess he could have left water in it, it froze and cracked the tank. I tried the peel and stick 12x12 vinyl tiles and they didn't last too long with the hot/cold weather changes. The full sheet stayed nice but was a bear to cut and put down in one piece. I have to fix the floor from the water damage so I'm thinking of putting down a thin light weight pergo type floor.

The bottoms rot out in old water heaters. Because of the drain placement all of the yuck lays on the bottom of the tank along with a couple inches of water. They make a wand that hooks to a garden hose to wash the yuck out I'm not real sure how well that works but it is very common for them to rot. I have seen some nasty replacement jobs with bent plastic pipes, added pieces and so on. Often what ever is above the tank can be removed then it can be done properly by removing the fittings and then the heater.

Good description I had never heard that one! In the summer a good portion come up my way for a marathon drinking contest on the Saco river.

This is what we did in our 2007 T276SR. We had two spots that were soft, just inside the door where the underlayment was not supported by the sill, and in front of the refrigerator, where it appeared a cross-brace was never installed. The vinyl had been stretched so tight that it shrunk approximately 1 1/2" all the way around and couldn't be used. The flooring we used was thin enough that we didn't have to adjust the slide.

We'd had it in over 5 years now and it's been great. Other than it's slicker than the vinyl,(the dogs don't care for it) it's served us well.

Yes, the water heater install that was attempted by previous owner was probably on the fly..... As for the floor, those were my thoughts too.

Yes, landed here 20 plus years ago from there, don't miss it at all. We usually head for NH or Vermont for our camping excursions...would like to try some state parks out in in eastern NY, looks like some nice state parks in that area. Like the State Parks the most, not into a lot of frills.

Mid coast, Camden Hills Maine State Park can't be beat highly recommended. I do camp often in VT too.
