Pics of Carolyn's new Ride!

I snaped these today. It only has a logo on the shade. I do't know if it had other and peeled or what.
I also looked for a number and I only found a 643 on the frame. Maybe this is the it.

Wow Carolyn, as I said before, I had no idea what to expect. Does that drawing on the rock guard appear to be original? I don't think that would be anything on a Sunline, but who knows.

Also, here's what your logo would have looked like originally:

If the only number you found was 643, I'm going to assume the VIN is (T-) 64372 (PA).

I'm curious, how do you know it's a 1972? Previous Owner?

Also, after looking at some of your other pics, I see the left side especially needs a date with Awesome. If you don't know about Awesome, it's an orange based cleaner (available from dollar stores) that is great for cleaning off the exact stuff you have. After scrubbing it down with Awesome, it'll look brand new.

Jon

Hello Carolyn,

welcome to the group and wonderful world of travel trailer ownership. Would it be possible for you to take and post a better pic of the logo on the front of your trailer. Boy, I must say that range hood and stove top are "BLUE". Trailer doesn't look too bad for it's age. Looks like someone has scrubbed on the exterior a good bit and wore most of the paint off right down to the bare aluminum.

Keep us posted on your progress,

Kitty

Welcome and congrats on your new to you TT.

I see your from the Hudson Valley. I was too until 16 years ago. Beautiful area. If you know where Rip Van Winkle Bridge crossed the Hudson river by Catskill, well look due east coming over the bridge, thru Olana historic site and that was our place. 54 acres of fruit and vegetable farm.

Good luck and happy camping

John

I know it has at least 2 owners.
I do have a old registration for it and it says 1972. So that is what I am going on.
As for the "Awsome".....I will hunt it down!
The paint, yes. Chipped right down to metal, so a paint job is in order!
The Logo ~ It has that it on the front and back. Big hunk of plastic rivited to it. It is too badly faded.
As for the design, I have no clue if it is original. When I look at it, it is just as chipped up as the rest of it so I am guessing it is.

As for the Hudson Valley, I know Olana well. Beautiful. I am in Poughkeepsie and I go there once a year to walk the gounds.
So do you think I have my work cut out for me? :P

Carolyn, does the registration have a VIN on it? I don't know about NY specifically, but usually all registrations have it on there.

Are you planning on getting rid of them? If you are, let me know.

It's a small world. If you are up at Olana and at the house/castle and look due east, that was our farm.

My sister moved to Beacon, just down the road form you. Works for IBM.

On the Awesome, this is what you are looking for. They have it in Dollar General. http://www.lastotallyawesome.com/

Happy camping

This is the logo that is on the front and back. It is pretty beat up. I will try to salvage it somehow.

As for the numbers on the registration, I really don't know which number it is. There are several:
one is :
1. AL12645
2. CR075736
3. MAO HUD 309
4. 647446
5. 32273

So which is which? Got me. They are all listed on the reg. with no explaintion. And this reg expired 12/03, so it is not that old.

I know it is not the weight, because I see that ...1860

Thanks for the link about the awesome. That will help me out.

Carolyn,

WOW, thanks for the pic of the logo on your Sunline. I have seen old logos, BUT not like yours. Its wonderful, and I believe quite salvagable. Clean it up and re-paint it so your Sunny once again prodly show it's name

Please keep us posted with your restoration progress, and with pics if not too much trouble.

And if you have any questions, I'm sure you know that your in the greatest place to ask them.

Kitty

Carolyn,

Congrats, I believe your coach just shed a year in age! I believe the last number (#5) is your VIN. You indicated before you found a # 643 on the frame. I don't know what that is.

If #5 is your VIN, that would mean it was the 322nd unit built in 1973, not 1972.

Jon

You are full of knowlege!

I can't make heads or tails of any of this. The registration says 1972 SUNLI

But I am sure mistakes can happen. I have no title and the prev owner didn't get one himself when he bought it.

I will try to get a pic of the numbers I found on the frame, but that is a bit tricky.

Kitty,
Thanks. I will post pics when I do anything to the trailer.

Carolyn, your unit is definately a 1972 model year unit per the info on your old registration. The manufacture date can vary wildly from the model year.

I worked as a Police Dispatcher and 9-1-1 supervisor for nearly 30 years here in Rochester, NY, and got very, very good at reading old registrations and driver's licenses.

Your '72 never needed a title, and you didn't need one to buy it. You won't need a title to sell it. The registration and a bill of sale are all that's needed for that. If memory serves, somewhere around 1976, titles began to be required in New York State.

If you like, scan the front of that old registration and email it to me. (My email address is on the button at the bottom of my posts.) I can decipher it for you and tell you what you really have and what the VIN number is for sure.

Carolyn,

I got the pic and it is perfect. Thank you.

AL12645 is the license plate that was previously on the vehicle.

The registration type is HOU which is a house trailer.

The vehicle type is H/TR (house trailer again) and it's color is WH (white.)

001860 is the gross weight of the rig, which is what the registration fee is based upon. Because it is more than 1000 pounds, you will definately need a trailer brake controller in your tow vehicle and good working brakes in the trailer.

32273 is definately the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number).

The only other item of minor interest is that the registration fee for a full year was $26.25, but the registrant only paid $19.25 indicating that, like a lot of us, he probably waited until spring time re-register.

The word TRANSFERABLE indicates that no title is necessary, and that you can sell the trailer by simply signing the back of the registration card. If you wanted to sell this trailer before you register it, NYS DMV has a form that goes with the current signed registration. No big deal. But, that registration is as valuable as a title so keep it safe.

The rest of the coded info is just transaction numbers, location where the registration was processed, batch numbers, etc.

No, it's a '73, and it's the 322nd unit built in the 1973 model year.

Jon & Carolyn,

Back in "the good old days" NYS DMV could be pretty sloppy, and I've no doubt that the dealers were no better when they took registrations in for processing by DMV.

I suspect that the 3 got mistyped as a 2 somewhere along the line. Or some clerk had a hard time reading someone's writing.

It might be interesting if the original sticker is still in the trailer somewhere. That would give the model year according to Sunline as to what they actually identified it as when built.

Well, Carolyn, there's no need to worry about that as far as registering the trailer goes. DMV won't care and if a police officer ever looks at the registration and trailer, I can pretty much guarantee that he or she will not be able to tell if the rig is a '72 or a '73.

Now, what's your plan for restoring this thing?

Plan?
Hummmm....I guess I need one huh.

Well I guess we will begin with the exterier. Roof. I know there must be some sort of sealant I can use up there.
Paint job. That will be the biggest job I think.
The inside, my husband and I can't agree on what to do. I want to relpace the ceiling. That will give me an idea of what is inside there and insulate if need be, be he thinks I should leave it alone.
The cabinets need a face lift badly! I though of lightly sanding and paint, be he wants to replace the door fronts with new. I am on the fence with that one. Bathroom, I want all new. Toilet, shower head and floor. A gal has to do what a gal has got to do!

The floor will be ripped up and examined, but I believe it to be solid, but I have been known to be wrong every once in a while, but don't tell hubby I admitted to that.

As for the cushions, I have to find somewhere that sells them. I need them for the table and "sofa" I tossed the ones that came with it. YUK!
That is really as far as I thought.
SO any ideas are WELCOME!!!
Carolyn
