Newish member in WNY

I joined this forum over the summer, I actually found it while in Old Forge. As of today I am dual Sunline owner. I have shared a 1988 18(?) foot Saturn for the past couple years with my parents. I refer to it as the shanty on wheels being that there was quite a few issues with it. Over the past few years I have cleaned it up and done some mods.

With the birth of my 3rd son it was time to upgrade. When a 23 foot Sunline popped up on a local on-line yard sale I told the wife we should check it out. Less than a week later its ours.

I still have to drag it home, but I am excited. Our model has the dual beds in the back. We are already planning on pulling them out so I can build a double or queen lift bed in their place.

I look forward to getting know everyone.

Dan

Dan - welcome to the forum......where did you stay while in Old Forge? That is where we live (well actually Thendara).....it is beautiful over here.
When DH & I camp around here it is at Nick's Lake or Golden Beach - we love both places but Nick's is by far the nicest (IMHO).

We actually have two Meet & Greets around here - one is near Rochester 9/23-25/16 and the other is at Nick's Lake 9/10-13/2016 - check them out! Hope you can make one or both.....

Oh by the way - we love pictures....so as you bring your new to you Sunny home and start the clean-up/modifications - post some pics..we love seeing TLC and progress on the trailers.

Again welcome!

Welcome Dan. We also are from WNY area not far from Buffalo. You will find this forum to be very friendly and a wealth of information. Check out our upcoming meet and greets that are scheduled for 2016. Feel free to ask questions, someone here should have an answer for you.

I know this is a tease with just one picture, but here I am before towing it home.

We have been to Nick's Lake in 14. We are going back next year. We get up to the Old Forge area at least once a year. Never been to Golden Beach, but we have done a bunch of other ones. Limekiln a couple times, a few of the chain lakes, Brown Tract Ponds a couple times.

I saw the M&G section. The one at Nick's will be about a week after I am there this summer. I will have to see about the one in Byron.

Thanks for the welcome, I will get some pictures of the work done to the little one, along with a build log of the larger one (if that is normally done on here)

Dan

As promised here are some pictures of the lil' guy.

First thing I did was install a 12v outlet for our phone and e-reader needs.

Here you can see my blob of a finger, and in the background you can see what used to be the refrigerator. That was removed because it didn't work anymore. I left the outlet in the back, but sealed up the vents. As you can see we put some storage bins in there.

So since we don't have the refrigerator I installed this rack to hold 2 coolers in the shower area. I have some hose to connect to the drain of the coolers as needed.

I couldn't get this all in one picture because of the close quarters. I don't have a before picture, but it was pretty nasty. there was a leak from one of the marker lights.

It was completely gutted. I re-insulated with blue foam insulation. The wall was 1/4 luan, the floor was scrap 1/2 plywood and the back wall/ ceiling was the plastic white board.

Also the floor was really soft. I laid down 2 layers of plywood roughly 3/4 total thickness.I had to "puzzle" cut it to get it to fit. I covered it was some cheap stick on tile.

Here was my LED conversion. For the new camper I will be using the LED bulbs.

Last year I welded a receiver adapter to the top of my bumper to carry a bike rack. Got to the Dak's and found out that it had started to tear the metal of the bumper. hence the armor plating you see. After some surgery to remove the receiver I bought this bolt on unit (din't know they existed originally)

I also made these support brackets that go from the skid plates (?) to the bumper.

I also reinforced the frame to bumper connection as well.

My backup camera that I installed and intergrated into my trucks camera system. It is a completely home made system.

Here is my Shanty on wheels. She has served my family well for 3 generations and 27 years.
