Newbie StarRay

Kinda excited. We just bought a 1990 T205 StarRay trailer camper. Just trying to figure the thing out. I don’t believe there is air conditioning in it. Would anyone have ideas on how to install air.

Welcome! The A/C would be in the form of a big box mounted on the roof. On the ceiling inside, about half way back in the trailer, would be a big air box to direct the air inside, and it would also contain the controls. If you don't have that, then it doesn't have A/C.

However, there's a good chance the trailer is pre-wired for A/C. Somewhere on the ceiling, near the center, should be a small junction box coverplate with a label on it, indicating pre-wire for A/C. It should also be near a roof vent. You'd need to remove that roof vent, cut the hole larger for the A/C size (I believe the necessary framing will be there), and then install the A/C parts.

Hi Hairduct,

Congrats on your new Sunny!

Your 1990 T205 Starray is 20' 10" long. That is very close to the size of my 2004 T1950. (20' 4" long) Sunline put a 11,000 BTU roof AC unit in it which would be what you would be looking for if you where going to add it.

This is what it would look like on the roof

Here is the inside. It fits in a 14 x 14" hole in the roof.

This link will take you to some more pics on how it comes off the roof and the hole in the roof. This is a "project camper" it is in a winter rebuild at the moment. The link will drop you in the middle of a long thread. Scroll down a little and the AC unit pics will start.

If you are adding one, look for a Dometic 11,000 BTU roof unit and the non ducted air box to go in the ceiling. The roof unit and the air box and controls are separate items, they may be packaged together or separate. These do cost some money. Much more than a portable home window 115 VAC unit.

Hope this helps

John

Your breaker box probably has a 20 amp breaker in it they usually run the wiring AC or not that one will be for the AC. So if you are working on this thing be sure the 20 amp breaker is off if you are plugged in.

Welcome. The a/c installs in place of the center roof vent. Their should be a wall plate in the ceiling next to the vent with the wires inside the box.
