I just got a cover for it and the instructions say to get up there. If I can it would make it a lot easier to wash the roof.
How well were they built then?

Welcome aboard.
Sunlines are built with roof joists 24" apart. On a metal roof trailer, there's not much material under the metal to support weight. The rubber roof trailers are usually the same with a thick cardboard-like material underneath the rubber membrane.
A few rubber roof trailers were built with plywood underneath, creating a true "walk on" roof." You can test for that pretty easily. If the roof flexes much between the joists, there's no plywood.
If you don't have a walk-on roof, just place a tarp or piece of carpet up there and then some plywood or boards. They should be at least 5' long so that they span several joists and spread out your weight.
There are already dozens of previous threads here about this subject. They go into great detail and some have pics to help you understand all this. It's all here for the reading.
