new member w/ 1979 baby sunline

I've had my little sunline for a couple of years now. Its always fun to see the look people give me in a world where larger & newer is always suppose to be better. I disagree, I love my old tiny sunline. I'm hoping to find some people that feel the same way I do.

Welcome to the forum Catherine!

We have many members who own older - smaller Sunlines.....so I'm sure you'll find a lot of talk about them here!

Welcome! We love seeing the old little Sunlines in the local RV Parks. Can you tell us more about yours? How long is it? Is it a truck camper or a trailer?

Well Hello!!

Its so nice to meet you all. Thank you for such a warm welcome. It really meant a lot to me. I had no idea that so there was a club for sunline owners until my brother & sister in law told me about it. They just bought a 1972 sunline. You all might have already talked to Carolyn. I havent seen there camper in person yet the photos look amazing and I'm very exited for them. I know how it was when I bought mine & started to fix it up. It was love at first sight that no one else saw but me. I'll attemt to do photos. I'm not great with computers soooo....we'll see if I can work that one out.
Back to questions: John I looked at my title and I dont have model #. If there is one on the camper you'd have to lead me to it because I havent seen one. And a question for you...I have always thought the toyota's are cute but how does it pull?
Kathy: Its so nice to meet another Kathy who has similar interests. thank you so much for resonding. Your camper looks so beautiful. I would love to see it some day. (I hope)
Pam & Steve: Well...my title says: Wt/Sts./Lgth. is 1325 I have no idea what that means. But my title doesnt say much more than that. I have an ID # a year and the fact that its a travel trailer on record. I dont think people were great with records in the 70's. I just went out and measured my camper by myself. Without the hitch its about 10'. But it does have a toilet. (you gotta love that!!)
Ok. I cant figure out the phot thing. If anyone can give me easy directions I'll give it another shot.
Cant wait to see all of your photos and get to know you better.

Hi Catherine,

First of all, the model number. Does your coach have a somewhat mid door (in front of axle), front kitchen, bathroom in front left corner, and a dinette in the back part? If it matches all that criteria, it would be the 12 1/2' MC, or Mini Compact. If this doesn't sound like your coach, the next model up is the 13.5' RD, which is basically a reverse of yours and a foot or so longer. The door was just behind the axle with a rear kitchen and bath and a front dinette.

Here's a link to the '79 brochure:
http://www.sunlineclub.com/docs/79t.pdf

Next, the model year. Your VIN is written to include the model year. Your's is most likely 5-6 digits, and the last two should be the model year. We went through this with Carolyn. Her's says it's a '72 on the title, the VIN listed on the title indicates a '73. You're very correct, they weren't careful about keeping records back then.

Here's a '78 12.5' MC- I don't have pics for a '79, but the '78's look very much the same. Unfortunately, '79 was the first year for the 13.5' RD, and I don't have pics for any of those from either '79 or '80, and '81 looks quite different from what you might have.

Catherine:

You've come to the right place. People who congregate here are passionate about their Sunlines. Your little Sunline is like my first car ('69 VW): It's so darn cute you can't help but love it. Just ask all the Que owners. Sunline's last model recaptured the feel of your early compact coach. I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures.

Well I guess I have a 12 1/2 mini then because those photos'
look just like my baby. At least what my camper looked like before I did some renovations to it. I'm still working on the photos. I dont really do computer things very well. I was wondering if that camper came with the awing or did you get that later? I would love an awing on mine but have no idea where to go or what the price would be like.
I'm really looking forward to the next meet & greet, I cant believe I'll have to wait until next year.

Catherine,

Awnings didn't become standard equipment until the '90's. You would have to look into aftermarket awnings, whether it would be a bag and pole style or rollout style. The bag and pole type might be easier to find for a small size like that because they are commonly found on PUP's. I would assume the rollout style are available, but it'll be a special order item.

As for a price, I went to the Camping World website:
http://www.campingworld.com/order/wi...&cord_Group=11

I chose the Sunflower yellow since it would match your coach best. You'd be looking at about $559 club price.

Here's the Bag/pole type (I chose Polar Coffee):
http://www.campingworld.com/order/wi...&cord_Group=12

You'd be looking at about $219 club price, so it's significantly cheaper, but it is a little more complicated to set up. I also chose a 8' for this, but this style does offer a smaller 7' version. If your coach can only accomodate a 7' awning, you'll have to go with this.

Here's one last option. It is probably closest to what you see on the pics I provided. It's also the most expensive option at $721.12 for a 8'2".

Hi from Montreal, Canada.

Just bought a 1979 ultra clean sunline 12 Ft MC like in this thread

Just wondering in the brochures is states that the axel weight is 1050 and the GW is 2100 lbs

What is accualy the trailer weight TOTAL?

HAPPY CAMPING.

What those numbers tell you are that off the assembly line with no propane, water, waste or camping gear the trailer weighs 1050lbs.

The max capacity of the axles is 2100lbs total, that's including the 1050 lbs empty trailer, meaning your gear shouldn't total more than 1050 lbs with camping gear, water, waste, and gas.

You can find out your trailer weight at a truck stop or quarry scale to know exactly what you're dealing with... or empty the trailer completely and weigh everything as you load it up.

Hope that adds some clarity.

Take care,
Lode

Yes thanks for your explanation. I just thought the curb weight was different than the axel weight as the vendor said that the trailer is in fact 1800 lbs??

If it is in fact 1050 lbs dry, my car is going to pull it with a lot more ease.

thanks for your fast response.
